Greetings, Illyriad.

Almost 5 months ago, ELVES launched the game's first user-led faction. Since that time, our small group has honed its first-of-its-kind allinace ranking system, seeking to put into action the promise of faction AI.

Now, we are officially listing our first round of alliance rankings. The following rankings indicate current alliance standing with ELVES:

AllianceRankingNotes
VortX11
SkB10
Roads9
nCrow9
H?8
ACHE8
4WT7
AESIR7
DiL6
EE6
ABSA5
Unbow5
Ascn4
ITG4
VTX3
G!3
TCol2
mCrow2
RUM0
Dlord0Tribute influence will end at the end of the Summer
StA0
Solitude-5
YARR-7
BSH-15

With the exception of a couple alliance, we've only processed page-one alliance. If you'd like to have your alliance ranked, please IGM Jejune.

As a reference, these rankings may lead to ELVES taking action according to our Alliance Ranking Scale:

Alliance Action Scale:

RankAction
+9

With Confederation, may attack enemy cities and join siege camps unsolicited.

+7

With Confederation, may attack enemy cities and join siege camps if requested.

+5

With NAP, may join in besieged city defense unsolicited.

+4

May NAP and defend besieged cities if requested.

+3

May offer intel on enemies unsolicited.

+2

May provide intel on enemies if requested

+1

May sell intel on enemies if requested

0Neutral
-1

Alliance members will not trade one-on-one.

-2

Borders and alliance rules are not respected as legitimate.

-3

Unprovoked diplo action (scouts, spies) may occur

-4

Unprovoked diplo action (thieves, sabs & assassins) may occur

-5

May attack and/or siege any units and/or cities ELVES deem to be violating their local area.

-7

Will actively seek out and try to destroy cities within a certain radius of faction enclaves

-9

May declare war at any time with the goal of suppressing or destroying the enemy alliance.

Bear in mind that alliances (with the exception of Dlord) have done nothing to "earn" their ranking, outside of their alliance's specific racial composition. That being said, actions taken for or against ELVES will seasonally affect rankings. Please refer to the ELVES profile page for more information on how actions affect rankings.

Greetings, Illyriad!

I'm pleased to announced that ELVES has made some signficant advancements regarding its alliance ranking system. Now, the entire ranking system is completely automated and constantly adjusting in real-time to changes to alliance rosters as well as interactions with the ELVES themselves.

Moreover, every alliance in the game now has a ranking, thanks to our use of the game's XML data feeds.

Please be sure to bookmark it, or add it to your profile.

Additionally, the rankings have also changed a bit. There were several calculations that at this time we cannot automate. However, it was decided that, at this time, it would be worth trading a few of the ranking factors for gaining full automation and scalability across the server. Now, this allows ELVES to interact any player or alliance quite easily.

If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to brush up on your Sindarin or Quenya and IGM Jejune.

For some reason, the shareable links from Google Sheets have problems linking out from this forum. Additionally, I was unable to embed the iframe embed code for the list here, which is a pity.

When I paste this into a new tab, it works.

If you continue to have problems, I have the link on the ELVES alliance profile page as well.

I am pleased to announce that ELVES has made another major improvement to our alliance ranking algorithm. Now, the rankings take into account the races of alliances' leaders. The Leadership Ranking Factor was an original ranking factor that we weren't able to automate from the game's data feeds at first, but we've found a pretty slick way of doing so.

The impact on the rankings is significant in some cases, with plenty of winners and losers. I debated whether it would be warranted to take the server through how we designed this ranking factor, but I don't think that I can do so without giving away the secret sauce. I will note one thing: the ranking factor does take into account co-leaders or multi-leaders.

A link to alliance rankings is available 24/7 on the ELVES Faction Profile Page

Thanks as always for your interest in our initiative! We will continue to advance the algorithm, as well as how ELVES behaves and executes against these rankings. **REMEMBER ** we are 100% role-playing within the game and acting against this algorithm. It ain't personal!

I'm pleased to announce that the final piece of the ELVES Ranking Algorithm has been completed! The final ranking factor is called "Net Hub Modifier," or "NHM" for short. Unlike the other ranking factors, I''m going to let players and alliances look under the hood of this one a bit to understand how it works and how you can affect it to your benefit.

How the NHM Works

NHM takes into account your alliance capital's proximity to Faction hubs, and the racial composition of those hubs. In rare cases, the race of the alliance capital's owner is also a ranking factor.

Currently, the NHM ranking factor looks for hubs that are <200 squares from your alliance capital. We had originally considered <100 squares, but it disqualified a large proportion of alliance capitals from the ranking factor, so we expanded it (for now).

Faction Hub Modifiers by Race

For alliance capitals that are <200 squares from faction hubs, these are the following modifiers:
  • Elf: +4
  • Fae: +3
  • Halflings: +3
  • Gnomes: +2
  • Humans: 0 (except for Pirates, which are -2, and the Hashashin, which are -2)
  • Mixed Races: 0
  • Dwarves: -1
  • Wulpor: -1 (NO idea what these are)
  • Centaurs: -2
  • Lizardfolk: -3
  • Gnolls: -4
  • Goblins: -4
  • Hobgoblins: -4
  • Kobolds: -4
  • Orcs: -4
  • Serpantkin: -4
  • Ogres: -5
  • Trolls: -5
  • Spiders: -5
  • Monsters: -6
As you can see, this ranking factor is very sensitive to alliances' proximities to creatures and races related to evil and the Dark Lord, since elves are, by nature, sensitive to the evil forces around them. The assumption is that if your alliance capital is near an evil hub, then your alliance is consorting with the evil ones.

Currently, there is no bonus for being near mixed or human folk -- they are merely neutral relations.

Because this is the ELVES ranking algorithm, being in close proximity to elven or fay hubs imparts a blessing. However, this is not true in all instances: if the alliance capital is 1) <200 squares from the elven hub and 2) is owned by an orc, there is a -3 special modifier. This reduces the net benefit to +1 for proximity to elven hubs and a neutral 0 for the Fae hub at "The Barrier." The role-playing assumption here is that an orc player with a city close to an elven or fay hub represents a threat. (Thus, moving an orc-owned alliance capital away from the elves and fay will result in a +1 improvement toward the NHM average.)

We have the capabilities of making other nuanced changes like in the future and may do so.

NHM as an Average

Finally, it's important to note that the ranking factor for NHM is not a sum, but rather an average. Sums are used throughout the ranking algorithm, but for NHM, because some alliance capitals are in close proximity to several faction hubs, it created net modifiers that were just too large. So, instead, we are using an average, which has softened the severity of the NHM's effect. That being said, I can tell you that it dramatically affected alliances across the board!

This completes the end of the development process for the ELVES Alliance Ranking Algorithm. From here, we will begin to dedicate our efforts on executing our faction activities against it.

Please be sure to visit the ELVES profile page to read about us and click the Lin kto see how your alliance ranks with us. Good luck!

Just a note that the "Faction Hub Modifiers by Race" above are 1) only for ELVES and 2) subject to have changed. Each Faction has their own modifiers for these hubs.
