Hi everyone,

You may (or may not be!) aware that Illyriad's main game servers are located in Tampa, Florida.

There's a large and very threatening Hurricane heading that way, and the current centerline forecast path of the Hurricane takes it pretty much directly over our data center.

Our server hosting providers, Hivelocity, have already put their emergency action plans in place (please see below for more details).

Obviously, we don't quite know exactly where Milton will make landfall or quite how destructive the winds and flooding will be.  The TPA2 datacenter where we host is a SSAE16 SOC1 and SOC2 Type 2 rated facility, with ISAE 3402 certification.   It is also located 10 miles inland, outside of the 500-year flood zone, which should be of considerable help.

There are off-site backups of the entire game state taken every 24 hours.  In the event of a catastrophic failure we can always fall back to our backup server, which is based in Los Angeles.  It might take a bit of time to bring it online and restore the game state, and we're very much hoping that this won't be required.  We are, however, preparing for it in case it becomes necessary.

This forum website is located in the United Kingdom, and so will remain up even if the game goes offline, so if the game servers suddenly go offline, please expect us to communicate here.

We wish all the very best to all Florida residents and businesses.

Be safe,

SC

Message from Our Hosting Providers - Hivelocity:
We are closely monitoring the path of Hurricane Milton and the storm’s impact to the Tampa area, where our TPA1 and TPA2 data centers are located. We have initiated our emergency action plan, which ensures diesel fuel delivery for as long as necessary and having staff in place for the duration of the storm.

Safety is our top priority, which is why we are restricting physical access to our TPA1 and TPA2 facilities for our colocation customers beginning at 12pm ET Tuesday. Access will be restored once the inclement weather has passed and conditions are safe, likely Thursday afternoon or Friday. Custom build orders for dedicated servers in TPA1 and TPA2 may experience delays as we look after the safety of employees, and we will have our hurricane support team onsite. With the exception of limiting physical access to our TPA1 and TPA2 facilities, we intend to operate business as usual over the next 24-48 hours.

We will have our Hurricane team on both TPA1 and TPA2 sites for the duration of the storm, which includes our support team for your servers, and our facilities team for monitoring the facility (the roof, the walls, the windows) as well as the generators, cooling, and power. We’ve stationed additional fuel trucks for the generators in both facilities in case of prolonged power outages and barricaded all windows. Each Tampa facility has diverse and redundant transit providers in case of transit outages. Our private dark fiber ring is between TPA1, TPA2, and the IX downtown. In the unlikely scenario, that all transit providers go down at a facility, we will have connectivity through the fiber ring.
