right. this may be a little long, so 'bear' with me.

when (soon?) factions go live, they should have a mission system much like the quest system for the tavern, but bigger. you should be able to send a messenger to a faction hub and then they give you a mission like 'scout this place', 'gather these animal parts for us', 'thieve/sabotage/assassinate in this hub', 'send resources to this spot so we can build a fortress' (which the devs could put in code that says the fortress can not be built within 8 squares of a player and only a certain distance out from the hub), 'we've heard of treasure, help us seek it out' and so on.

Now you may ask, "but Nikon, what would we get for doing a mission". what i think we should get is something called a faction point, where by we do a mission, get a faction point, and then collect them to a certain point, say 50, so then we gain a rank on the faction ranking list. so if a player has a standing of zero, and wants 100, they have to get however many to get that rank.

the factions could also ask you to attack new NPCs like bandits or fellow factions. here the NPC count for these enemy armies could be no more than say 100. this would mean we could only use elite divisions when doing faction army missions, something that would make elite divisions actually useable in illy

NEXT. the factions as part of missions could allow each player two new special characters to use, but only we would only be allowed to have 1 each in each town that does the faction missions. the first would be a Treasure Hunter. this little unit you could send out to places like abandond clay pits or towers or tiles like that and they would stay there for a certain time, grab what ever treasure is there, and take it back to the faction so the player can be paid no more than say 25k in gold for that treasure. you could have some sort of multi mission quest to find clues before getting the treasure. The other unit would be a special commander type. so in each town you could have 6 commanders instead of 5, but the sixth can only be used for faction missions and have a very slightly advanced skill set than a normal commander. then you could attach this commander to the elite division and off you go.

overall, when doing faction missions like this around elgea and BL, there could be an overall world wide storyline of the factions trying to compete for power and trying to overthrow King Sigurd.

last thing, as tourneys are few and far between, we should also have something like a world wide event. only one i can think of would be a invasion of the undead, where theres a competition for which ever player kills the most or which alliance kills the most.

all of this i feel could add real appeal to the game, help keep player retention and also attract new players. if anyone has any more ideas on this id like to see them below.

Generally, faction interaction needs to do a few things:
  1. Work dynamically without player interaction.
  2. Work well with player interaction, but not be too malleable; deep-rooted culture would eventually prevail.
  3. Allow a player to work at building reputation (standing) with the faction, with some consequences for other factions in the political web.
  4. Whatever negative 'standing' a player has, there should be a way that that can be influenced at least +70% (i.e. from kill-on-sight to favourably tradeable). This could be a combination of factors: alliance players working on the alliance standing, individual standing, standing with other factions in the web.
About the Elite factions, the faction could make them 'hush-hush' missions, with repercussions if a stealth element was not met.

I disagree with #4. Some factions should always be hostile to specific races (like the Dwarf Clans towards orcs), or towards everyone (like Melders). And it would be nice if they disliked players who had high standings with enemy factions.
