Topic: 03Apr12 - Alliance List, Scrollbar Posted: 03 Apr 2012 at 14:30 |
Alliance List The alliance listing page has been spruced up and should be easier to navigate. - You can now apply a filter to only show alliances which are recruiting.
- You can now jump to the page containing your alliance, based on the current sort.
- Added sortable column Founding date.
- Added sortable column Town count.
- Added sortable column Land owned. (Towns+ Sovereignty)
- Removed 0 member alliances.
Scrollbar The erroneous visible scrollbar on a hidden element caused by the latest release of Chrome has been mitigated and should no longer be causing issues on the world map.

Excellent. Now if only 0-member alliances were cleared out of the diplomacy pages.

Very nice GM ThunderCat. Thank you!
Is the fact that Land Owned is now the default sort intentional?

I would imagine so...it's slightly more meaningful a metric than population, and arguably the best among the available columns.

Though, some players could claim some sovs too early, which could also slow their growth... so that's arguable as you said. But In general i think it anyways is a good alliance "power" indicator

Yeah, I would say that or number of towns. If most sovs claimed are troop sovs, then land claims make a decent proxy for firepower. Personally I think the most accurate metric would be population or land claimed/number of players.
Edited to clarify: The most accurate based on the variables already listed in the rankings.

I would add that a ranking/sorting order is difficult to make meaningful, because there are so many variables, so many purposes in the game, so many measures of effectiveness, and a player wanting such stats is probably going to want to account for different attributes in different ways than anyone else. There are more possible summary statistics than there are players.
As such, I don't think we will ever be fully satisfied by any ranking system, but we can make-do with broad statistics we have now, and with what we can find out in-game :o)
