Not to mention that they're mere moments from dropping dead from exhaustion! The life of a messenger is a rough one in Illyraid; I imagine they're recruited from the lowest dregs of society. 

I'm sure Liberal minded writers vomit up Swift-ian polemics about how the corpses of messengers ought to be fed to Spear-makers. Sons and daughters of traders who dip into their parents' wine allowance are warned that they're on the road to messenger-ship! Ephebic bookbinders sit around campfires (nursing their paper-cuts) and tell stories about manic-messengers sent from the Wastes to the Rill Islands to recall 10 trueshots!  After 30 grueling minutes of training these poor souls, who we call messengers, are rendered near aphasic, able only to repeat: 'Come Home'.

Perhaps it's simply referring to the demeanor of your Messengers? They must be rather agitated and unfriendly after riding for so long.

But yes, it is a bug that should probably be fixed.

I think there are petitions for this, but I agree, this should be fixed, it's a bug.

So I had sent a couple of armies (from my town X and my town Y) to reinforce one of my other towns (town Z) and I sent messengers to call back the armies. When the messengers from towns X and Y entered the diplomatic radius of town Z, I was told that there were hostile diplomats on the way. Since these messengers are from my other cities, they shouldn't really count as hostile, should they? Could we fix it so that they appear as friendly and blue (in the number above the diplomatic overview button) like reinforcing armies do? Otherwise it is kind of misleading.
