Thank you to my former, formidable war opponent and friend Spektor for putting together this cool map that shows the placement of SiegeQuest 2's event squares.

As you can see, the event squares are pooled mostly around the player-led Factions, so that we can maximize the competitiveness and interaction of alliances, Factions, and armies.

I just want to thank TCol for offering to double the silversteel prize pool, and EE for adding iceheart to the prizes. Much appreciated!

Also, there is some language above about "blockading hubs." This is language left over from a previous idea for SiegeQuest 2 (which I can no longer edit). Anything above that refers to blockading hubs is actually referring to sieging and capturing building squares.

Sorry for any confusion. The lanuage was updated on the Google Doc.

Hello, Illyrians!

I am pleased to once again announce the launch of a new Faction Play event: SiegeQuest 2: Faction Assault! The military event is set to begin on January 15, 2021 and will run through to midnight on January 31st.

This is the third official Faction Play event, building off our very successful SiegeQuest 1 and our (less-than-successful) "Duran's 123rd Birthday" side-event.

I have created a Google Doc that contains the setting, rules, and prizes for SiegeQuest 2 that you can access at any time.

Setting

It is a dark season throughout Illyriad. Just as farmers have put away their scythes and plowshares, hunkering down for a long, cold winter, the Factions have for the first time begun to stir.

Throughout the lands that the player-led Factions control, as well as in more distant lands, derelict and deserted fortresses and buildings are being used to create forward-operating bases and forts to bolster their military presence.

It is time for the alliances of Illyria to act. Not only can they stem the rising tide of Faction might by staunching these bases on the vanguard of Faction regions, but also they can establish new bulwarks of defense and military stability in both Elgea and the Broken Lands.

There may even be opportunities to ally and partner with Factions in this assault as well.

The battles won’t be easy. Many alliances will fight rigorously for these incredibly valuable structures. Factions and alliances alike will vie for control of the buildings, as well as the squares around them, in order to gain geographic superiority.

Best of luck in securing the most valuable buildings in SiegeQuest 2: Faction Assault!

Dates

January 15, 2021 through midnight on January 31, 2021

Gameplay

Welcome to the second installment of Faction Play’s SiegeQuest event series! In SiegeQuest 2: Faction Assault, alliances will compete against one another for points in a tournament-style format by “sieging” and capturing special building squares in the regions populated by the game’s currently active player-led Factions (ELVES, Dlord, HUMAN, and MERC).

Instead of actual sieges for SiegeQuest 2, special building squares will be considered successfully sieged and captured when all passable squares around the special square are simultaneously occupied by the same alliance, and the special square itself is also occupied.

Example:

In other cases, some or many of the squares around a building square may be impassable or occupied by a city. In these cases, only the passable squares must be occupied to establish the blockade.

Faction Defense of Buildings

There are 58 total special square buildings in play for SiegeQuest 2. Of these, 32 of the squares (55%) will be defended by an assigned player-led Faction, while the remaining 16 squares (27%) are undefended. Additionally, the vast majority of the defended buildings are within close range of Faction clusters. As such, these buildings are worth more points than buildings in other regions that are undefended by the player-led Factions.

However, while some buildings are officially defended by specific Factions, any player-led Faction is permitted to occupy or attempt to occupy a building, and can also attack units attempting to siege the building.

Penalties for Attacking Factions

Alliances who attack player-led Factions are subject to receiving reductions in their alliance’s overall ranking with the Faction as part of Faction Play. The following chart details the severity and duration of Faction Play penalties on alliance rankings:

Faction Army Type

Action

Penalty

Duration

Consolidated Faction Army on siege square

attacked (but not destroyed)

-0.25

30 days

destroyed

-0.5

90 days

Consolidated Faction Army on building square

attacked (but not destroyed)

-0.5

60 days

destroyed

-1

120 days

These penalties stack, so that multiple hits from any alliance on a consolidated player-led Faction army (containing 1 or more player armies) occupying a square can and will receive multiple ranking penalties.

The maximum negative ranking penalty an alliance can incur with a player-led Faction during SiegeQuest 2 is -5, with a 120-day duration.

Alliances should proceed with caution and seek to mitigate their rankings with player-led Factions, as future events will more heavily involve alliance rankings to achieve strategic advantages.

Faction Play Strategy, Diplomacy, and Role Playing
For alliances that wish to avoid ranking penalties from attacking player-led Faction armies defending the buildings and surrounding siege squares, alliances may seek to secure provisional, temporary NAPs with Factions so that they may enjoy peace of camp and co-occupy siege and building squares.

For SiegeQuest 2, capturing cities controlled by a player-led Faction will result in provisional alliance ranking bonuses for the remainder of the event with select Factions.

Consult this table to determine your best course of action:

Action

Faction

ELVES bonus

Dlord bonus

HUMAN bonus

MERC bonus

Alliance captures a building controlled by:

ELVES

1

1

Dlord

1

1

HUMAN

MERC

If an alliance has a +2 or higher ranking with a player-led faction, they may seek to enter diplomatic relations and secure a NAP.

Note: a +2 ranking does not guarantee a NAP with a player-led Faction. +2 is the minimum ranking needed for a NAP, and higher rankings facilitate easier diplomatic negotiations for securing the NAP. Some Factions, such as MERC, may seek remuneration for diplomatic relationships.

You can consult your alliance’s rankings with all of the player-led Factions by referencing this page at any time.

Alliance v. Alliance Attacks

It is important to note that, just like a tournament, alliances will be attacking and destroying each other’s armies in an effort to win squares and buildings.

All players and alliances who send military units to the siege and building squares designated as part of SiegeQuest 2 are opting into military activity, and consent to risking the partial or total loss of their troops and/or gear.

Any hostilities that ensue between alliances that take place outside of SiegeQuest 2 squares are not sanctioned by Faction Play.

Players and alliances play within Faction Play events at their own risk and consent to being attacked from players and alliances in player-led Factions as well as alliances.

If you do not wish to be attacked, please do not participate in SiegeQuest 2 or any Faction Play events.

Reporting Captured Buildings

Once an alliance manages to occupy all passable squares around a designated building square, as well as the building square itself, they will take a screen shot and send it to Jejune to receive credit. The screen shot must include the following:

  • green encampments on all squares around the building.
  • date and time.
  • Player account name.
  • Map coordinates in link/URL.
Scoring Points

Points will begin to be awarded on January 15th, 2021. This means that alliances can begin sending units to secure squares before January 15th.

The alliance will receive points based on the value of the special building square. Players and alliances should consult the Building Square Points Table (below) to strategize which buildings they want to target.

Not all buildings are worth the same number of points. Alliances will need to determine if they wish to concentrate more forces on the competitive building squares, or seek to secure lower-profile buildings around the map.

Once the building has been captured and recorded with Faction Play, the alliance does not need to keep its forces in place. However, if another alliance manages to secure the passable squares around a hub that was previously blockaded, they become the new leader for that faction hub and the points for the blockade shift to them. Whoever has secured the points for a hub by the end of the gaming day on January 15th, they capture the points for the event.

PRO TIP: Once a building is captured, it is recommended that alliances leave at least a sizable occupying force within the building, even after the siege forces are recalled, in order to protect the building from being re-taken by a player-led Faction or overtaken by another alliance.

The leaderboard and all points will be managed on this spreadsheet.

The winners will be determined based on the total number of points accrued by the end of the event (midnight, Server Time, on January 15th, 2021).

Peace of Camp and Shared Points

It is possible that alliances with diplomatic relationships may co-occupy the same squares and report simultaneous captures. If all passable squares are occupied by two or more alliances at the same time, the points for that building will be divided by the number of alliances co-occupying all passable squares at the same time.

Alliances can avoid sharing points by temporarily cancelling all diplomatic relations for the tournament and re-establishing them at the end of the event.

Military Size & Crafted Gear Limits

Military Unit Size

Unlike SiegeQuest 1, there are no limits to the size and scope of military units that can be used in SiegeQuest 2.

Crafted Gear

Crafted gear that increases attack or defense values for armies is prohibited for use by alliances in SiegeQuest 2, however, gear that has a neutral or negative effect on attack and defense and positive effect on speed is still allowed.

Player-led Factions are permitted the use of all crafted gear in SiegeQuest 2.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 alliances who rank in total points at the end of the day on January 31st.

In the event of a tie, the following tie-breakers will be used:
  • The alliance rankings of the alliances tied in points will be averaged among the 4 active player-led factions, and the ranking will be determined by the scoring of these average rankings.
  • If there are ties in average alliance rankings, the alliance with the highest number of captured buildings will be deemed the winner.

The following prizes will be awarded to the Alliance leaders:

  • First Place:

    • Exclusive First Place Faction Play rings for all alliance members whose account participated in SiegeQuest 2.
