Did you know that you're developing a reputation with the Factions?

Faction Play is pleased to announce a new feature to the Alliance Ranking System -- HubRep. Short for "Hub Reputation," HubRep is a new ranking factor that is tied directly to Faction Play Trading. It will make Alliance Players think twice about where they buy and trade with the Factions.

How HubRep Works

With Faction Play Trading, every time an Alliance Player purchases goods from a Faction in a Trade Hub, the amount of gold spent is tallied. As Alliances reach certain spending thesholds, that spending increases their Faction rankings. However, the Faction Play Trading system also collects data on where those purchases took place.

This is where HubRep comes in.

Each Player-led Faction has its own set of modifiers for each for the NPC Faction Trade Hubs in the game. (These modifiers have long been used with the Alliance Capital modifier, which rewards or penalizes Alliances for having their Alliance Capital <200 squares from certain NPC Faction Hubs.) Every time a trade is conducted, the modifier is tallied and averaged for each Faction, becoming an Alliance ranking factior that is added into their total rankings with all of the Factions.

Here's an example:
  • Alliance A has conducted extensive trades in the NPC Faction Trade Hubs of Grovinton (Halflings), Uruk Vadokan (Goblins), and Tor Gorrak (Dwarves).
  • Each of these Hubs have specific modifiers for all of the Player-led Factions:
Faction HubRaceELVES ModifierORCS ModifierKELTS ModifierDlord ModifierMERCS Modifier
Uruk VadokanGoblins-44-5-4-4
GrovintonHalflings3-3063
Tor GorrakDwarves1-1061
Average00-230
  • The HubRep for Allance A is the average of these modifiers, rounded up or down. So, while the modifiers are a wash for Alliance A's rankings with ELVES, MERCS, and ORCS, the trading reduces Alliance A's overall ranking by -2 with KELTS, while boosting it +3 with Dlord.
Just like Faction Play Trading, the effects of trades don't last forever -- each trade times out after a set number of days. This means that if an Alliance wants to change or "fix" their HubRep, they can simply stop trading in certain hubs, and begin trading in new ones -- all part of a strategy to rank high with certain Player-led Factions over time.

HubRep and Gold

In addition to being a ranking factor, HubRep also has an impact on the amount of gold that Alliances spend with Player-led Factions, acting as a boost or reduction. The system works similarly to the current in-game "taxing" system, which adds to the cost of trading goods in certain hubs, depending on the race of the player.

With HubRep, each averaged-out ranking factor corresponds to a bonus or reduction in the gold spent with each Faction. While we are not revealing at this time what the exact bonuses or reductions are, players are invited to theorize on how this might be calculated and strategize accordingly.

We feel that these two features of HubRep make it an exciting, new feature in the ranking system of Faction Play!

Finding New Trade Hubs

Part of the reason why we've launched HubRep is to get players to start thinking more about NPC Faction trade hubs -- specifically, how the race and disposition of a trade hub's occupants may interact with the Player-led Factions. To this end, Centrum purposely does not offer any bonus or penalty for trades. If you want to find bonuses with the Factions, you're going to have to frequent the trade hubs of their liking.

We have posted all of the NPC Faction Hub modifiers in a new worksheet on the Faction play Alliance Rankings sheet. Access them anytime here.

(NOTE: Player-led Factions' modifiers may change over time and without warning. Be sure to check in on these modifiers to stay up-to-date on any changes.)

How Many Ranking Factors Are There?

A lot! There are now a multitude of different ways to affect and change your Alliance's rankings with the Player-led Factions:
In total, there are 9 different ranking factors that combine to create your Alliance's composite ranking with each Player-led Faction.

Have you cracked the code yet on how to get the rankings you want with your local Faction?
