Our first expanded profile of an orc character looks at Drudzak the Cunning-Teller, whose report is used in the faction profile of the Drek-Hhakrall. Drudzak was spawned from the fetid depths of the orc hovel of Khaz'rak, a structure renowned among the Drek-Hhakrall for producing orcs with uncanny intellect. Khaz'rak’s hovels, filled with the pulsating ichor of their dark rituals, birthed Drudzak fully grown and imbued with a mind sharper than any blade. The shamans overseeing his spawning believed his crimson eyes and the intricate black veins etched across his skin were marks of an otherworldly favor. From his first moments, Drudzak displayed a natural talent for deciphering omens, weaving tales of prophecy, and crafting strategies, earning the attention of his kin.

Throughout his life, Drudzak embarked on numerous adventures and encounters that solidified his reputation. He brokered uneasy alliances with the Pirate Kings and misled the dwarven Overoad Traders of The Brothers’ Haven into abandoning the silversteel mine in the High Hills with his tales of a cursed vein that was on the verge of collapse. In the swamps of Grelmarsh near the forsaken orc-infested ruin of Nargul, he outwitted a coven of necromancers, turning their summoned horrors against them and claiming their ancient, magical relics for the tribe.

Drudzak’s rise to the position of Cunning-Teller for Great Chief Kujagur was marked by his unmatched ability to manipulate both foes and allies with words and wit. During his early years, he gained renown by interpreting an eclipse as a sign of Kujagur's destined conquest, which soon came true in a resounding victory against rival clans.

Drudzak’s interactions with other factions were as varied as they were consequential. The elves of Argiri begrudgingly respected his cunning, even as they cursed his role in the theft of their sacred Moonshard. The human merchants of the South Oceans Company learned to fear his silver tongue, which turned trade deals into traps.

Drudzak’s eventual disappearance from Khaz'rak—whether by death, exile, or some darker fate—remains one of the tribe’s enduring mysteries.

While there are several rare items associated with Drudzak's, among the most important is the Shadowbone Talisman, a relic of enigmatic power, which was once a prized possession of the necromancers of Nargul. Crafted from the bones of ancient, shadow-dwelling creatures, it was imbued with dark enchantments that allowed its bearer to peer into the minds of others, unraveling their deepest intentions. Drudzak the Cunning-Teller, a formidable figure among the Drek-Hhakrall, cunningly seized the talisman during a daring raid on the necromancers' lair, adding to his reputation as a master of deception and strategy. The talisman, with its eerie glow and whispering aura, became a symbol of Drudzak's unparalleled insight and tactical prowess, feared by allies and enemies alike.

Graxil the Shrewd is a new character to illyriad lore, as he has never appeared in any writings or Faction profiles. Spawned within the chaotic labyrinths of Urkthul, Graxil emerged into the Parvacones clan, learning the harsh rules of survival and cunning through brutal and violent means. The atmosphere of tension and fierce competition shaped Graxil into a figure capable of navigating the treacherous politics and rivalries within the older orcs. Despite the brutality of his upbringing, he quickly distinguished himself as one with a sharp mind, even in the overseer's violent training pits, preparing him for the myriad challenges he would face.

He eventually rose up the ranks of Parvacones to be given the title "Manflesh Sniffer of the Parvacones" due to his unique role as a kind of pseudo-diplomat for an otherwise near-feral faction, where he spent unprecedented time among humans compared to his kobold kin. His missions – which were always one part diplomatic and another part subversive – often brought him to the edges of human territories where he observed their behaviors, customs, and subtle nuances. Over time, this exposure allowed him to familiarize himself with the distinct scent of humans, something few Parvacones could claim. The title "Manflesh Sniffer" is not a literal description, but rather a Parvacones expression, signifying Graxil's deep understanding of human ways and his ability to maneuver through their world with ease. It encapsulated both his strategic acumen and his indispensable role in bridging the oft-violent chasm between his faction and the human realm, marking him as a figure of both admiration and cautious reverence.

Graxil met his end in an unlikely and darkly unfortunate clash of miscommunication, befitting the tales surrounding him. During one of his daring escapades in the murky marshlands of Bolgskarn, he found himself in a clandestine negotiation with a notoriously dense ogre named Blarg. While attempting to negotiate the exchange of an ancient relic, Graxil gestured to an ornate club carried by Blarg, attempting to compliment its craftsmanship and ponderous weight. Unfortunately for Graxil, the words "impressive weight" were lost in translation. Blarg, mistaking it for an invitation, eagerly offered a hearty demonstration of the club's heft and his prowess in swinging it. With a gleeful swing, the ogre accidentally golfed Graxil’s head clean off, sending it careening through the window of a nearby wayhouse. Though the wayhouse is now deserted, it is said that Graxil’s head was taxidermied by the building’s last tenant and mounted above the hearth where it remains even to this day.

Did you notice what Graxil is holding is in his hand? That is the "Cog of Deepdelve," a Dwarven relic he stole during his numerous expeditions into ancient dwarven ruins. This artifact is reputed to possess a mystical connection with mechanical constructs, allowing its bearer to harness the power of long-lost Dwarven machinery. The gear was cut from the living rock and carved into what was once a functional cog used in Dwarven mining equipment. The middle is plated with yellow gold, featuring ancient Dwarven runes etched into it. While Dwarven in construction and design, it is now considered a possession of the Parvacones. In kobold culture, the Cog is a symbol of shrewd intellect and cunning – attributes seldom associated with the frenetically violent and feral greenskins.

Whoever possesses the Cog of Deepdelve receives a 25% boost in their siege engines' movement speed. However, it is understood that the cog is deeply guarded by the Parvacones.

Relbit Miller is the Chief Administrator to the Duke of Keppen, serving under Lord Porthur, the Royal Duke of Keppen. He plays a significant role in the administration and management of the duchy's affairs.

Miller grew up in the bustling city of Kepsburg, the heart of the Duchy of Keppen. Born to a modest family of traders, he showed a knack for diplomacy and administration from a young age, skillsets that would later define his career. His early education in local governance and trade within the affluent city provided him with insights into the complex machinations of power and economy.

Throughout his career, Relbit embarked on numerous diplomatic missions, notably engaging with the neighboring Council of Illyria to ensure prosperity and peace. His adept negotiation skills were tested during tense trade negotiations and border disputes, where he often mediated between fractious factions.

Relbit's work frequently brought him into contact with various factions, both amicable and adversarial. His relations with the Keepers of the Golden Fields were favorable, frequently collaborating on agricultural advancements and trade exchanges that benefited both regions. Conversely, his interactions with the Sundog Gith were marked by tension and strategic caution due to their longstanding hostility. The duchy's positive standings with groups like the Council of Illyria and the Order of Allembine inspired Relbit's diplomatic approaches and facilitated smoother dealings during his administrative tenure.

Li Lon Go is mentioned in the lore of Illyriad as the Third Adept of the House of the Tranquil Waters. He is notably recognized for writing about the Taolin Vu, the God of the Heights and Eagles, one of the six Gods of the Upper Circle. Li Lon Go's writings explore the disdain that Taolin Vu holds for most creatures of Illyria, referring to them as “mud-crawlers.” The god, however, shows favor towards mountain dwellers, whom he deems worthy of his favor. This deity, receiving the mighty Mountains of Taomist and the mountain men of Kanchalka from Lao Te Shin, First amongst the Gods, is a significant part of Illyria's mythological history, as documented by Li Lon Go.

Li Lon Go was born a mortal in Laoshin, the city of Qi Quien, which was under the rule of the mighty Tien Zao faction. Li Lon Go's status took him from Qi Quien to Baolan, the stronghold of the Forbidden Empire. There, he created strong alliances and forged bitter rivalries, rising in status among the Imperial Court to be named Third Adept to the Emperor. His interactions with the Eaglesbrood and the Kanchalka speak of strategic alliances, masterful planning, and a deep understanding of inter-faction relations.

As the Third Adept of the House of the Tranquil Waters, Li Lon Go was not a stranger to the whispers of the wind and the allure of the mighty mountains. His soul called to the peaks of Taomist, where the Giant Eagles of the Eaglesbrood were said to soar freely, guardians of the skies and eyries beyond the clouds.

Guided by the people of the Kanchalka, he ascended the treacherous slopes with great reverence, guided by the tales of old and the blessing of Taolin Vu, God of the Heights. With every step, he felt the watchful eyes of the Eagle Riders, humans who shared a deep relationship with these majestic creatures, ensuring that only the worthy could enter their realm.

Reaching the vast eyries that spanned the mountain's breath, Li Lon Go marveled at their grandeur. His time among the Eagles was illuminating. The Guardian Eagles formed defensive lines as they circled their home, ensuring no intruder could breach their high sanctum. Scout Eagles often took flight, their keen eyes surveying vast distances, while Hunter Eagles demonstrated unparalleled prowess, securing sustenance from the earth below.

Gron Drak Skullsplitter is the court bard to the Pax Orcana — which is a significant position, given the importance of storytelling and preserving history through both oral and written tradition among the Pax, with their Faction being among the few greenskins who use the written word. Gron Drak Skullsplitter is responsible for recording tales, creating songs, and recounting stories of valor and history, particularly tailored to the tastes and traditions of the Pax Orcana. His writings about the Fratri Hominis are used as the primary source for their faction profile, demonstrating the veracity of his storytelling prowess and understanding of the faction's history.

Spawned amidst the tumultuous environment of the Skullsplitter tribe, Gron came into existence in the rugged terrains of Elgea. From the moment he opened his eyes, the harsh reality of the orcish life became his tutor. As he grew, Gron exhibited an uncanny aptitude for storytelling and an obsession with lore – a rare talent among the greenskin race.

Gron Drak's journeys led him across Elgea, quenching his unending thirst for tales and the orcish lore beyond his clan's history. His wit and charm made him a sought-after envoy and loremaster, often spinning narratives that influenced many a battlefield outcome.

Prior to his role as Bard, he served the Pax Orcana as a diplomat of sorts, placing him in a unique position to influence the Pax’s inter-factional relations with a number of other Factions and races, aligning with the broader tendencies of orcish diplomacy. He was generally successful in forging and growing relationships with non-orcish greenskin factions, as their shared cultural and racial ties promoted increased greekskin might and the Pax’s “peace through death” motto.

Perhaps his most significant diplomatic work is represented in the Pax’s close ties with both the Zau Brulk and Drangu Mundas, with the orcish empire boasting the capabilities of leveraging the unparalleled might and ferocity of both trolls and ogres on the battlefield (though never together, given the enmity between the two giant greenskin species).

In the annals of the Pax Orcana, the tale of Gron Drak Skullsplitter's diplomatic venture into the dominion of the Drangu Mundas ogres is both a testimony to shrewd diplomacy and the power of narrative. The ogres, dwelling within the region of Kal Tirikan, are to this day known for their formidable might and grim reputation as formidable adversaries. During a time when the Pax Orcana sought to bolster their strength against rising threats, Gron Drak was dispatched to parley with these elusive giants.

Approaching their sacred lands with respect and lore, Gron Drak’s astute observations of the ogres’ intrinsic values revealed a key to their hearts: a longing for honor and remembrance in ages to come. Through carefully crafted tales and strategic praise of their strength, he cast the Pax Orcana and Drangu Mundas as partners in a great saga yet to be written — a narrative that promised renown and a legacy of valor for the lumbering ogres. Skullsplitter composed a short, unfinished verse that he taught to the ogres, with a danging final line that begged to resolve with the word “smite:”

In mist-laden valleys where shadows dance,
The trolls of Drangu Mundas advance,
With might and roar, they join the fray,
Their foes retreat at break of day.

In battle's clamor, their strength is known,
With thunderous blows and courage shown,
Their laughter echoes, fierce and wild,
Enemies flee, downcast and beguiled.

Their arms are like the ancient oaks,
With each swing of club, the earth awoke,
The ground beneath them shakes with fear,
Their power unmatched, the end is near.

Yet this tale yearns for its final verse,
A tale of triumph to disperse,
The ending waits, your deeds to write,
Go forth, brave ogres, in valor's light.

Earn thou’st glory with every soul ye . .

The ogres, swayed by such grand prospects, immediately stormed off in a clamor, leaving a path of destruction and death on their way to the Pax’s battlefield with Tipu Khan and bellowing “smite!” with every deadly swing of their clubs against the Khan’s Keshigs.

As the years dawned upon him, Gron's fiery adventures gave way to a role steeped in legacy and mentorship. He became the court bard to the Pax Orcana, steeping his later years not in conquests but in the telling of them, crafting the songs and stories that would preserve his tribe's valor and deeds. The renown he gained provided him with a platform from which to influence young orcish minds, shaping future leaders and storytellers alike.

Even in quieter times, his presence remains impactful — a bridge to times past, drawing together traditions with newfound horizons.

Cirian Danorian is a distinguished figure renowned for his role as Commander of the High Guard of Virten. As a trusted leader and strategist, he commands respect across many factions, including his own Kartur-Hhakrall guards. Born in the Virten city of Helnsbere, Cirian is noted for his deep reconnaissance missions and strategic acumen, often navigating complex alliances and rivalries in the realms he oversees. His connection with the Crown Guardsmen of the Kartur-Hhakrall and his interactions with the Free Orcs highlight his diplomatic skills and ability to coordinate diverse groups toward a common goal. Throughout his career, Cirian has been instrumental in maintaining the stability and influence of Virten, leaving a legacy marked by loyalty and valor.

His diplomatic skills are frequently employed in negotiations between rival factions, such as the regal High Elves of Llwcharion and the Dwarves associated with the Overoad Traders, of which Virten maintains a positive diplomatic relationship due in large part to Danorian’s diplomatic parlance with them.

Cirian's collaboration with the Kartur-Hhakrall enabled him to further integrate their formidable Crown Guardsmen into Virten's defenses. His interactions with the Free Orcs is well documented in his journal account of a deep reconnaissance mission into their lands, aided by Kartur-Hhakrall guardsmen. While the mission was largely fruitless, Danorian did manage to meet several Warlords of the Free Orcs, including Ghorza Gazat-thrak, one of the prominent Chieftains of the Free Orcs. While Danorian left with no positive sense of agreement with her, Gazat-thrak did tacitly grant him and his Kartur-Hhakrall guards free passage out of Free Orc lands – even after the Kartur-Hhakrall skirmished with her soldiers in prior days.

One of his notable explorations led him to the ancient forests of Kingslands, where he briefly spotted and greeting the elusive Treefolk, of which little is known or written. Cirian's accounts of this interaction are believed to be chronicled in his journal, though he has not made those accounts public, save for his acknowledgement that he has indeed seen and spoken to them, albeit briefly.

Ghorza Gazat-thrak is a formidable chieftain of the Free Orcs, known for her battle prowess and strategic acumen. Her rise to leadership was marked by a series of decisive victories that solidified her position as a respected and, at times, feared leader among her people. When Cirian Danorian ventured into Free Orc territory on a reconnaissance mission, he was greeted by Ghorza's stern diplomacy and sharp intellect. Unintimidated by the presence of Kartur-Hhakrall guards, she negotiated terms that benefited both the Free Orcs and Virten, showcasing her skills as a diplomat as well as a warrior. To this day, the 2 factions maintain a largely neutral relationship due to her willingness to give free passage back to Virten for Danorian and his troops.

Ghorza's leadership continues to inspire her people, and her diplomatic interactions with Cirian have paved the way for stronger relations between the Free Orcs and other factions in Illyriad.

Mirexeth Vorthyn is believed to be the current High Priestess of the Dragonkin, residing in or around the Spire of Drakenthyr on Farra Isle in southern Elgea. While seldom seen and even more seldom spoken to, Vorthyn is likely responsible for the recent awakening of living dragons and the rekindling of the Dragon faction in Illyria, thanks to her immense magical abilities and possession of rare artifacts and heirlooms associated with ancient dragons.

Vorthyn was born and raised in the fishing village of Windwyrm, which is located on the sandy shores of the Bay of Rill near the the Windseeker Faction Outpost of Aurelia. It was likely the towering dragon statue that inspired Vorthyn to pursue the mysterious dragon arts. Leaving behind her family, she embarked on an adventurous pilgrimage to uncover the secrets she thought were her destiny. Along the way, it is believed that she procured perhaps the largest single collection of dragon fossils, relics, and heirlooms, second only to King Sigurd’s cache of dragon bones that are now understood to be what was used to create the corps of undead dragons that were unleashed in 1037.

Her path intertwined with other dragon followers and, once reaching Farra Isle and demonstrating her knowledge and passion for dragons, she was soon inducted into the modern-day chapter of the ancient and mysterious Ordo Draconis. Rumored now to be the leader of the Dragonkin, Mirexeth Vorthyn’s influence is deeply entrenched in the faction's myths and rituals. Operating from the secretive Spire of Drakenthyr, she orchestrates the faction’s covert activities with an air of solemnity and undeniable authority.

Specifically, it is believed that Vorthyn is directly responsible for conducting a series of grand magical spells and rituals that awoke an unnumbered legion of dragons that to this date remained sleep and hidden from modern Illyria – an act or defiance and revenge against King Sigurd for pursuing the animation of undead dragons for his own pursuits of power and solidarity. It is  Mirexeth Vorthyn’s intention to establish the dragons as the dominant power in Illyria, with the Dragonkin as the only Faction who can protect all other living beings from their terrible power and destruction.

Among the many fossils and relics in her possession, Mirexeth is rumored to possess a magical dragon heirloom of profound significance. This ancient artifact, known as the Heart of Mormaug, is believed to carry the mystical force required to commune with the slumbering dragons of yore. Legends speak of its ability to awaken dragons from their deep slumbers, a relic entwined with the fate of dragons and possibly Illyria itself. As keeper of the Heart, Mirexeth stands at the crucible of potential transformation, an unpredictable force within the fragmented dance of dragon worship and the destinies it guards.

Lord Beleric Asmund was a diplomat and noble involved in Illyrian politics. He is primarily known for leading a significant diplomatic mission to the Orcish faction known as the Blood Reavers in the year 1018, accompanied by Saxil of Tundale, a rising figure in the Council of Illyria.

Lord Asmond was born into an aristocratic family in the Council of Illyria city and trade hub of Woodsedge, a city located in the central forested regions of the Middle Kingdom known for its timber industry, pulping, and bookbinding. His family had deep economic ties to all of these industries, selling and trading widely throughout Elgea. His Father, Lord Aelric Asmund, played an active role in his family’s business dealings and brought along his son Beleric throughout his business travels, exposing him to the wider world.

As a young man, Asmund attended the Royal Lyceum of Centrum, a university whose curriculum emphasizes statecraft, diplomacy, oratory, law, and the impartial study of history. It was here that he focused on the intersection of diplomacy and trade, and later joined the diplomatic trade office in Centrum. Asmund distinguished himself as a valuable asset in dealing with the greenskin tribes and factions, given his concentration at the Royal Lyceum in Orcish studies. Early successes in forging simple but lucrative trade deals with Goblins of the Sundog Gith Faction in nearby Meilla led to his promotion as lead Envoy to the greenskin factions.

At Lord Asmund’s bidding, the Council of Illyria, seeking to gain an advantage over other greenskin threats, conceived the idea of hiring the Blood Reavers—Orcs of notorious ferocity and martial prowess—as mercenaries, believing that hiring them might be the best way to establish longstanding diplomatic and trade ties that would be beneficial for the realm in warding off other rival greenskin Factions, such as the Sillar and Sundog Gith, who had grown especially hostile with the Duchy of Keppen.

The events leading to the death of Lord Asmund are well documented, appearing in Saxil of Tundale’s firsthand account of the incident. His murder at the hands of the Blood Reavers sent shockwaves through the Council of Illyria. From that time on, relations between the Council of Illyria and the Blood Reavers entered a long period of mutual bitterness and distrust. In subsequent years, mention of Lord Asmund became synonymous with the perils of overreaching ambition and the volatility that lies ever beneath the surface of inter-faction relations in Illyriad.
