@Sgt. Shanks - There is only one winner and you can only enter once per email address/facebook account. So theoretically, you could enter once for each of your accounts. But creating lots of spam accounts to do multiple entries could get you disqualified.
@Rohk - You may want to check your spam folder. I hope that it wouldn't show up there but it may have.

Maybe it's just me but I felt this was kind of cheap and dishonest. I'm all for random prizes and giveaways but at least state your intentions of it. No where in your post did you even hint that this was just ploy to bribe us into advertising for you for free. No where on the actual webpage did it say that either. It wasn't until I saw you got extra points liking on facebook or tweeting it that I realized what it was.
I don't want to spam my friends with "Go here! Play this!". If we're having a conversation that warrants it, I may tell them about illy like I would with any other game. However I'm not going to mass endorse your game to everyone on my friend list in the hopes I can win $3 worth of in game content. Especially not when you don't even tell me up front that that's what you want me to do.
Admittedly, this kind of thing irks me more than most people but I don't think it's too much to ask that you're upfront about it. Especially if we're the ones advertising for you. All that said, I did have one entree and if by some rare chance I win, re-select someone else. I don't want it.

I have to agree a little with Brids here, I can't partake as I try not to advertise to the whole world what I do in my sparetime. Its private.
I wish there was an alternative to the twitter/facebook stuff.
We broadly agree on the goal, but the means...notsomuch.
Cheers.

I totally understand and respect that some people do not use social media at all and if they do it is their choice to use it how they see fit.
That is why the contest purposefully has an option to enter without connecting to any social media or posting to any social media. You can enter by simply giving us your character name and email.
The option is there to also use social media to enter but, again, it is entirely optional. (Just as participating in the contest itself is entirely optional.)
Illyriad (on principle that I feel strongly about) never forces anyone to spam their friends on facebook or otherwise. Not in gameplay and not for this contest. I respect our players and will not cross that line.
That said, yes, we do have official social media channels for Illyriad. I run them and I hope that they provide value to players who choose to follow us there. One of those sources of value (in this case) is extra entries into a contest.
And again, this is not the first and will not be the last contest that we hold for Illyriad. We've done others in the past that have no tie-in to social media at all and I'm sure we'll do some again.
I hope that helps to clarify, and again, there is no dishonest intent here. Just another avenue with which to provide something that (I hope) players will enjoy.

I respect what Luna is saying, but I agree with Brids. In addition, campaigns of this kind can be used to artificially "bump" a company or product in various search sites. The problem is, everyone does it, so the information provided by those sites becomes less valuable. I was a bit disappointed to see Illy joining in the crowd on that one.
In terms of adding value, it seems like this was frankly designed to add value for Illy more than it was to add value for the players. Which is fine, I'm good with you guys making money. However, it seems like it falls a bit short of the normally extraordinarily highly ethical manner with which Illy treats its playerbase. Not deceptive or underhanded necessarily, but intended more for the benefit of the company than the players, the vast majority of whom will derive no benefit at all from this exercise.
Edited to add: I actually believe that the players benefit when the devs make money, since this allows them to add more features we like, and I do trust the devs to do good things with money they make. I'm just not sure this is an "end justifies the means" situation. But it's not a big deal.

Why
give away items that players have earned the hard way by winning tourneys? It
cheapens the prize that those players received thru their playing
skills.
Players did receive the tourney troops, just because they changed
alliances right after the last tourney was over. It seems to go a lot against
the high standards I thought this game had.

Why are we complaining about this? Now I feel left out..
Are we mad about illy going mainstream? should i be mad? I don't know.. what gets me to play illy is the fun little in game politics, so stressful but so fun....
i dont think youd stip playing if they went on more paths of mainstreamdom hmm? just complaining? i dont know.. maybe you'll boycott the game or something..could work.. all i know is the community irks me but keeps politics interesting so i stay.
