Couldn't say. Nevertheless, a assure you they're fought in buildings. I've seen battle reports leave out details before.

@Aurordan .. my battle reports say that when they razed my cities settled upon mountains they fought upon mountains .. not buildings.

Why would the report say a different thing than what really happens?

Two opposing forces clash against each other.
Even the smaller crags in this mountainous area will hinder attacking cavalry, as well as more heavily armoured swordsmen.

Unlike cavalry - who suffer from the difficulties in mustering a coherent defence in mountainous terrain - defending ranged units find every advantage in the high lookouts and rocky ground.

No, you're correct, capture or raze attempts will use building terrain modifiers. This still gives you a pretty strong defensive bonus thought, even with bows. I wouldn't change your whole strategy based on that anyway. By the time anyone will be storming you, they'll have almost certainly killed all your troops with direct attacks if they can.

Not true.  Both attacks or raze/capture attempts at cities are fought in the terrain your city has settled upon.

So you did well choosing a mountain for your elven cities.

Oh ok then my equipment would still give bonus and archers would be best for defending my city still ?

Ok so i was reading throughout the forums and I'm actually quite confused , i am a elf and i was told they have the best archers so i moved my city onto a mountain for more of a better defense for my archers  well if my  city is on a mountain surrounded by small hills , would i not get the mountain bonus when a sieging army finally breaks through the walls ? i read in other threads that when a army fights in the city at the end of  siege that its actually considered building fighting so t1 or t2 infantry would be the best for defense .

So douse that mean i need to make t1 infantry in my city instead ? and also would it mean that my mountain gear is useless to defend my city ?
