Heh, this sounds like an entertaining idea. But when your cities are attacked in retribution, the mercenaries will scream to the heavens:
"But Malek, why didn't we use diplomats?!"
The idea of diplomats for hire would be greatly entertaining and all the more safer... And dangerous. Could you ever see your alliance putting diplomats on for hire?

I wish you all success Malek. I think it is very well possible to run a successful mercenary alliance, as long as there are folks committed to it.

Hi Rill,
All suggestions are welcome which is why I posted our goals here, it would be good if [BANE] could integrate itself into the community. As at present we are a bit small, all alliances start that way we would explore our options, these can include your suggestion as well as in any open conflict we  can nap with a client, basically it is dependant on what people want from us.
All people have to do is ask us, and we can have a look at your proposal. Your one has some very good points.

I have a suggestion:  Start by hiring out just to guard and/or capture resources such as mines.  That would be consistent with your not destroying cities thing.  Not that it's any of my business, and you can run your alliance how you want, but it seems to me that will be less likely to result in adverse consequences for your own cities.

There is still a lot of work to go into the operation of this alliance, when somebody hires us it will not really come as a shock as the 2 parties involved will already be at war or trading blows.
Would anybody have been surprised if we had been picked up by TLR or TRO?

We also have some ground rules, we will not destroy/raze/capture cities or take any gold or res from them. If we undertake a successful attack on a city we will return what was taken plus a little bit, we have already been paid so we dont need anymore.

This doesn't mean that siege tactics wont be utilised just that we will not destroy cities, we are being paid for specific goals, if the client wants to wipe an alliance off the map that is up to them, we wont be participating in that aspect at all and our engagement will end before that.  We are well aware of how long it takes to build cities and how much they cost which is the main reason for not attacking cities with the aim of destroying them.

A lot of these details will be ironed out as we move forward, some may change and we will adapt to the changes in Illy itself, the client will still have to post that they have engaged us for offensive purposes.

Invictusa, people hire us to assist them in one way or another it also means that we may also hire people as well for one off engagements.

People may accept that we are doing a job, and they may not. Each engagement will be different and it is impossible to predict what may or may not happen. This service is currently lacking in illy and there may be a place for it with all the new changes that have happened, time will tell though.
The one thing that wont change is that if the alliance that has commissioned us calls us off due to peer pressure or the threat of being destroyed by the res of the community, we keep the money paid to us, it is not our fault that they made a bad judgement call and declared war on a bigger alliance and are getting there backsides handed to them.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out in the end.

Very cool.  If I wasn't tied down I would definitely consider applying, although I have got to agree with dude in that a Soldier of fortune must expect that a target will fight back.  Of course I dont think you were implying otherwise.
...and miles to go before I sleep.

/me is thinking of starting an alliance to protect mercenary alliances after they are engaged by the wrong person and have said person's enemies turn on them.

I would get 25% of any contracts they sign and promise my assistance should things go south.

Sort of like reinsurance ...

LOL
