The ability to aggregate different types of items would make it more complex than the current sell order mechanics, but I would think people would be happy to have this feature even if only for one type of item at a time.
Of course, another alternative would be to allow people to accept their own sell orders; this would increase the potential for manipulating trade scores, but not really that much more than buying and selling with an alt already. It would be niftier to have the mechanic described above though.

The system could immediately place the goods in what is essentially an "escrow" account, and even show the items being picked up under the "Pick Up" column in the trade movements screen.
This should not be any more complex than what already exists for hub sell orders that are accepted from cities, where another player's caravans travel to pick up the goods and drop off the gold; in that case the goods they are to pick up are already deleted from the selling player's hub inventory and indicated on the buying player's pick-up column. I am not qualified to comment on how difficult something like this might be to code, but I would think that they could use a lot of the same code that is used to process sell orders from a hub, basically treating it as though the player had created and accepted a sell order (for 0 gold) for items in his/her inventory. I'm not saying it would be a slam dunk, but the structures appear to be there.

Yes. The idea is that the vans would ONLY be dispatched from City A to pick up specified stores you have in Trade Hub B and return directly back to City A.
Instead of Launch Vans from City A to Hub B, remembering to check the "wait for more orders" button so they don't make a u-turn. Wait until vans get to Hub B. Pull up trade page again, load hub, and launch back to City A, remembering to check the "stay at home" button so they don't go back to the hub. I admit, that becomes an issue when you're sending vans from cities OTHER than your trade city. I hadn't considered that particular facet. Bugger. Maybe the solution would be to allow it to be City A to Hub, Hub to specified city, vans return to hub OR go home. Thats starting to sound a bit too complex though.

From a system standpoint, this causes a lot of ancillary questions. For example, what happens if you ship away the goods the caravans are trying to retrieve? Yes, I know we can propose a solution to that specific question, but the feature seems to raise many others. I'd like the function, but I wonder how much project effort it would require, and what the cost-benefit would look like.

I think the idea is that there would have to be a trader at the hub in order to perform the "collect resources" interaction. No circumvention needed.

unlikely to happen imho.
currently you need a trader at a hub to issue orders. this would circumvent the principle that a trader must be present at a hub in order to send the vans back.

Indeed an excellent Idea, not as good as the special vans that belong to the Trader you have at the hub idea, but still a great Idea.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. I highly recommend it and hope the developers can do it.
