Upgrading basic resources doesnt give you alot of pop, it does give you resources.

In general, the production centers for advanced resources bring the most population.

Censored the problem is following...

I am trying to keep some army and my gold has gone down on typical 25% tax rate, which i kinda don't want to change for higher.

my city population was 551. After upgrading both a quarry and an iron mine to LVL9 all i got was - 2 more people in my city :(

is there any other way to boost population in a fast way?

It looks like Gross Income = Population times 4.
Then apply the Tax Rate to the Result for Gross Gold production.

Population = food maintenace of your buildings.  So build/upgrade buildings to grow Pop.  Just keep your Food production positive.

if you're talking about gold income it has to do with your population.  If you click on your city walls and go to the taxation tab, it'll show you you're population, there income, and how much taxes you collect of their income.

How is the gross income of the city calculated?

I initially thought that is was the combined output of my mines, but that's not the case.  Is it some factor based on population?  Is it just some random voodoo?
