Topic: Chrome latest release; Illy map glitches Posted: 01 Nov 2011 at 00:00 |
Greetings,
Since the latest release of Chrome from Google (15.0.874.106; Oct. 26th) the World Map canvas has a few display glitches.
To see this, simply go to World Map, hover your mouse around the map, then move the mouse outside of the map and notice the map turns completely black. Do this a few times, and now the background image shows through, and map units are visible again.
(On Windows 7 Ult. x64)
Edit: Once the black goes away, and you're left with the underlying image (yellowed paper) showing through, subsequent visits to the World Map do not exhibit this behaviour.
Cheers, Daerond.

Hi Daerond,
Thanks very much (and also thanks to the petitions we've received on this issue) for submitting this.
Especial thanks must go to you for your very detailed report here. Precise browser, exact version number, OS and replicatable steps to produce the bug = maximum kudos to you from us. If any future players wish to report general glitches here, then this a really very solid template to bear in mind.
As a very weird coincidence, we're (physically!) with much of the google team tomorrow and wednesday in SF, and we want to ask them some questions about this one as it appears that this is a chrome glitch in their Oct 26 release rather than anything at the HTML5 side at our end.
Having said that, we'll also try for a temporary patch workaround as well in case R16 of chrome doesn't patch the issue.
Thanks again,
SC

Ah, so that's what it is! Was perplexed that it started happening suddenly and I couldn't figure out what I had started doing differently!

That's a relief. The world map is a brilliant feature of the game. Almost worth a study in itself.

My initial theory was that it had something to do with my screen size and resolution, but I'm not a techie at all!

Facing the same problem, strangely the glitch seems to disappear when I have the grid lines turned on!

There is a new update out for Google Chrome version (15.0.874.120). I just upgraded it and all the map problems are gone for me. Can anyone else verify that it works for them too?
