That would entirely depend on context.
Simple rule: don't be a jerk and you are probably gonna be ok.

Don't forget that alliance chat is completely unmoderated except by the standards of the alliance leaders (with kicking as the only option for enforcement). This is one of many good reasons for joining an alliance.

Is there an ETA on the new chat system?
I haven't spoken in chat much at all since I started playing. I do watch chat a lot, since to me one of the attractions of any MMO is the opportunity to be part of the interaction between people from all around the world. After my first day on the server, I decided to keep quiet after a player was warned by others he'd be banned for completely innocent comment about his own living arrangement.
Just last night, another player was warned by others that he'd be banned for talking about Lady Gaga's marketing strategy since it would be considered homophobic. Now- as someone who should personally know, I can guarantee that what was said was nothing of the sort. Now I am sure that the real mods have the intelligence to tell the difference, but that's not the issue.
It seems that the current chat is full of wannabe mods, and what is a brilliant game lacks friendly banter that goes anything past giving new players resources and older ones snuggles. Just as an interesting topic gets rolling someone stops it with reminders that mod ban is likely to be implemented. I don't mind censorship- I will never be racist or personally hurtful to anyone, but it seems that at time this is taken a step too far, and I really look forward to a time when I can enjoy some challenging and intelligent debates on real-world topics with my fellow gamers.

Well defined and policed boundaries are the only way to deal with "children"

Actually, perhaps it would have been best if this thread had not been opened. I really don't understand the need for it to have been placed in a public thread. An effective forum moderator lays the down the rules of conduct at the beginning of the game and then implements them dealing with each case on it s own merits, in a fair and resonable way, and carries on ensuring that the standards of dev/management team are maintained without any fuss.
There is no need to open a thread using "robust" terms at this stage of the game. It simply creates an issue where one is not needed. I think it should be closed. I would rather spend my time enjoying the game.

I think a number of people appreciated the clarification. I didn't need it, but it might be helpful for those who like to test limits to have them be even more abundantly clear. Hopefully will save GM Luna some time spent arguing over chat bans. Which means she can plan more fun stuff!

I was asked in the past if I had a screen shot so that is why I do it. They can go thru their chat logs and verify it is not falsified. Besides falsifying stuff like that can backfire hardcore and cause more problems for you.
