Hi all,
When I browse through the offers on the market I often notice some buy orders for very rare and expensive stuff at absurdly low prices. I know buying cheap to sell high is the abc of trading, but some of these offers are definitely defying logic (and the laws of economics). Need an example? What about elemental salts at 1 gold each? My guess is that these offers are an unfair attempt to trick the newbies into selling out expensive stuff before they realise its real market value and, as such, we should find a way to have them removed. |

There are much simpler explanations for this phenomenon. For example, one alliance member is transferring a good to another alliance member at nominal cost. The trade just happens to go through the hub.
This avoids having to pay exorbitant taxes to give something away. For example, I am a Crow. I happen to want to let other Crows know I have a shortage of saddles. Or fire salts. Or silversteel. They see my buy order and either 1) accept it or 2) just go ahead and send me the stuff. This saves a lot of e-mails to the tune of "do you have any saddles?" Nice try on another conspiracy theory, though. P.S. If you're a Crow and reading this, I could use some cows.

What they are, mostly, is a way for allied players to transfer ownership of items within hubs, or requests for resorces from players inclined to give them.

I trade fairly often. When bartering items directly, the two parties often arrive at an agreement, then post buy orders for 1 gold.
Sometimes you are in a situation where a customer wants to send you the gold payment directly, but receive the items immediately at a common hub (usually Centrum). If you're not worried about your official trade score, it's certainly possible to conduct transactions that way. |

I sure like my conspiracies, Rill ;-)
Anyway, I had already imagined this system could be used to arrange a goods exchange as described by Brand, but then the order would have to be filled by the seller and disappear almost immediately. Instead, I just went back to the market and checked the order I cited as an example: it's still there and has been for hours. If it's used to attract your allies' attention, as Rill says, then I think it is analogous to begging for resources in GC, which is considered not cool.

The order might not be filled immediately if it were a goods exchange. Two people negotiate by mail, come to an agreement, one person posts, the other person is offline and picks it up when he gets in. Since it's a buy order, there's no cost in gold for posting it, so you can even start a preliminary talk and say "if this is agreeable I have a buy order posted at blah blah."
Begging for resources in global chat is considered uncool, at least partly because it can be disruptive. Asking for resources is encouraged in some alliance chats, depending on the alliance. I'm not sure why posting these orders in this way would be uncool, unless you see it as disruptive. Would it have substantial negative consequences if multiple parties did it?

I think 0.00001 gold buy orders are a perfectly acceptable tool for players to collect unused basic resources from allies near trade hubs. I am constantly wasting basics, especially food, and would happily donate them to my alliance. The buy order eliminates the hassle of resource requests in AC, plus locating caravans and materials to send. A hub order can be filled at any time, at the sender's convenience.
Near-zero buy orders are also a useful military tool to allow transfer of items with no risk of enemy interception. Perhaps the current server war made that technique necessary for many more players. |

check Dyadin - i have buy orders for saddles at 50 gold/piece and its getting filed from time to time. I like the way we put sell/buy offers in the hub - no need to rectify it.
This is a game, you can play whatever you wanted to do here - including trade offers. For Newbie Concerns: I know some newbies has precious stuffs - I suggest they should check this page to learn what are those things that has value and important for their growth. http://www.puzzleslogic.com/illy/crafting.html /me craves for more saddles.. lol.. Essentially it is simple tax evasion, keep quiet about it, or King Sjeord may send his inspectors to the markets.
