Anyone who thinks they don't have a chance doesn't understand how this is going to work. Playing smart, it would be trivial to beat an army 5, even 10 times your size, because there will be so many other players who are trying to do the same thing.
The big players will probably destroy each others armies fairly quickly - it may not start as a level playing field, but it will quickly become one. Sure, they'll have an advantage - but you'll get valuable experience and get to have some fun, and you've actually got a reasonable chance at winning - In many ways, it is more a contest of persistance, cooperation (among attacks from those players weaker than someone currently holding the hill), cleverness, and vigiliance than it is of pure military might (though pure military might will certainly help).
Most importantly, you'll be providing us with valuable information regarding future tournaments, and there WILL be more tournaments. I will run one in each quadrant, each with a slightly different set up.

This is a game where players have the chance to lose stuff. Every player better get used this reality instead of pretending he or she is playing care bear island. I can guarantee anyone, that there will be some upsets in this tournament. In some cases, there are players with high pops who have a big military. And there are cases of lower pop players having big armies. Some players focus on point totals rather than upkeep on military. So it is very possible for a player with only 2001 pop, to have a bigger army compared to a player that has only 5000 or 7000 pop.

Make more troops... There will never be a perfect way of doing this... However if you enter the tournament, you can use any excuse you want as to why you lost etc...

There will always be that excuse, however I feel divisions would help solve the problem. And it would be pretty hard to have players have the right commander levels for the tournament. I guess I will have agree to disagree with your statement.
400 pop - 2000 pop bracket
2001 pop - 10000 pop bracket
10001 pop - 30000 pop bracket
30001 pop and higher bracket
Maybe we just have too many care bears in this game, that may be the problem.

Lionz, making division won't solve anything, as it will still be the biggest from their division who would win. If instead we made a troop and commander limit, then we would be battling on skill alone.

I agree, I feel their needs to be more rules for this tournament. It seems like the bigger pop players would win this. That is why I recommended lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight divisions. I feel this should be a requirement to make things fair for the players involved. There also needs to be some more rules in terms of how many troops a player can use etc... I feel if there is more clarity in this regard, more players would join.
Since there is such a huge area being covered for this tournament, I think a player would have to hold a square for 96 hours. It may take some players 4 days or more just to get there...
Perhaps even adding 2 more squares to claim would make things more interesting. So randomly pick 3 squares on the map for 8 players to claim. Just something to think about.

Losing their army will gain valueble commander exp and the pot is big enough to try and win this tournament. Being vulnerable to attacks from others is out of the question because this will be breaking the rules -> messing with the tournament. And Dlords have offered their help to attack players who mess with the tournament + your old alliance will also most likely help you when some1 attacks you.

Well the reason no one wants to is that they will lose their army and be vulnerable to attacks from others (some people no doubt feel this way as their alliance may not care for them, but will kill them if they leave or something else is going on). And they don't want join and then a large player like Smoking GNU comes in and sends a massive army that can't be bested, except by another superpower player.
Just a few reasons that i think are holding people back.
so as long as we keep the fight where there is a somewhat even playing field, more people will join.
I can participate in the tournament as well, as long as that is not against rules to add things to the pot and join the tournament, and as long as no one else from my Alliance wants to join the tournament, if they do they will replace me. If that happens i will post it here.
I am only using Smoking GNU as a refernce nothing more, no offense intended GNU.
