Oh wise, wonderful, winsome, witty sages of Illy, divine the answer I seek....

When you get a battle report, whether NPCs or other troops, you get an amount of gold, shown at the bottom of the report. I know that the smaller the group of NPCs, the less gold. I assume it's the same for other player's troops.

What determines the exact amount of gold? Is it by chance what it cost to build the NPC or troop?

AND when you ask an alliance mate to help by clearing a city under siege by you does the gold in that battle report come from the cost of the troops conquered OR from the gold stores of the sieged city?

It's the experience value of the defeated NPCs.

You do not get any gold when you defeat player troops.  You ONLY get gold when you kill nature NPCs.  (Killing faction NPCs does not result in gold.)

You get 12 gold for each experience point of nature NPC killed.

Btw you do get Gold when killing factions NPC

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Heavily wooded terrain spells difficulty for ranged units and cavalry. Infantry units find they have a large advantage here.
