Is there?  I wasn't aware that this proposed factor had ever become reality.  Also my own experiences with diplomatic missions appear not to support this either.

However if there was a change to game mechanics it would be nice to have a debriefing option which would work like the extra mana spending in mage towers, so you have your assassin at level 6, consulate at level 12 and your paying 10K gold for the job. The more money spent the higher the chance of success but the consulate level and assassin level has just as an imprtant affect on the mission outcome.
The old assassin units could perhaps become more effective as a counter intelligence network.

There is also a factor relating the number of assassins sent to the population of the city. Too large a ratio increases the chance of being discovered.

In Total War series, Assassins are stand-alone units, similar to Generals. What if we have Assassin acting like a special Anti-commander Commander? Instead of being able to recruit them in numbers, we can only create 1-2 (similar to limitation on the number of Commanders) per city. They can target any units and gain experience as they level up. The number of assassination targets they can have per mission is based on their level.

The easiest assassination target (highest chance of success) is caravans. The most difficult is another Assasin. Commanders, depending on their personal skills, are somewhere in between.

100% support the idea of assassinating non-commander units - especially since there is no other way to get rid of defending diplos.

(obviously you'd want to assassinate their assassins first :P. Yay for shadow wars!)

I think it's perfectly fair for an active player who's online and playing attention to have the opportunity to react in a manner that defends against the possible outcomes, especially since one must still guess what those outcomes might be or react to several at once.

An equally alert attacker can use both good timing and ruses to make those reactions work in his favor as well.

No belargyle means it'd be nice to have the option to make hostile diplomatic units look like neutral diplomatic units.
I think it'd be cool if there was a percentage chace of the assassin units showing up as hostile depending on consulate level. I.e. rumors may have reached the city etc

Exactly.. Not to mention the fact that the assassin is seen inbound though it is true you don't know what it is yet. But the fact you can see them, I never really understood that part Smile Don't get me wrong, I like seeing what is coming at me, but it would be nice to have an aspect that could potentially mask them, while still reporting the threat of a potential assassin being inbound.

Maybe bring into play a new research item, say.. Disguises, in the diplomatic section.. which would make the assassin unitl look like any other "passerby" Diplomatic unit and not an aggrssive one. This will still allow everyone the slim opportunity to move out any military or diplimomatic units while watching inbound units.

Just some thoughts Wink

He is not saying just for army commanders, he is saying before you send out your guys you give them a target, example go kill the commanders, go kill the trackers...go kill the saboteurs....
