So I have heard it for years that the game is dying. I'd like to hear any ones take on why they would think that, and if so any comments from the Developers on if the game is indeed going to close any time soon. Thanks.

i think its clear from the devs that the game will not be shutting down, they are supposedly working on new stuff and investing in server upgrades etc.

from the player side, i think most would agree the game is dying. simply, many people think there is not enough to keep them playing, and we see this with the amount of players leaving the game, and new players do not show up enough and do not stay enough. i have access to some player xml from a few years ago, and have been collecting myself for the past year, and the number of accounts in the game is decreasing, the flow of new players is not enough to offset the people abandoning, and this doesn't even count the permasats etc.

i think first and foremost this is a player-driven game so the main focus to "revive" is to create stuff that draws in new players. right now the game looks abandoned from the lack of updates on the "news" page, and there is no advertisements.

something i would suggest is de-listing and then releasing the game again on steam, this time as f2p from the start, as this will draw many eyes. maybe wait for the completion of the new ui and release it as "remastered" or something.

the game also feels abandoned because of the lack of action from devs, many bugs and petitions are active for years with no action, no news, no moderation of chat, no action against multiaccounters. this isn't something that a new player would notice, but for old players the sense of stagnation and feeling that problems will never get better are a big reason for quitting.

i think even small updates that can be posted to the news section will show some life and inspire some more confidence in the devs. save up a few bug fixes and make "patch notes" a regular feature every couple of months. stuff like this can do no harm and should be trivial to do. that is what i think

I think that's a really excellent take on it Bazoon, and I have a lot of similar thoughts.

i believe boredome that come to all singleplayr games hit here .... if no new  updates show up you get bored...
for me illyriad sould go to interaction/competition/co operation to eachother road .........and no to theme update/grafics  road ... cause the theme update/grafics  road is for singeplayer ( so need updates very shortly to keep interest ) and i am sure ppl come to a multiplayr game come to multiplay and not see what great mysteries there are .... ( at the side of the game mysteries are fine)..... .... so we need the tools to give point to interaction/competition/co operation , also sames goes and for the grafics i strongly believe the target groop of illyrad is not the one that want super fansy graficks ...but most for super fansy maths/politicks/...

game is dying and we see it with all these neiborhouds lined... when i come to illyriad ( covid time )... it was hard to find a town ....now the inactive towns are all over......

regasrding F2P ...i disagree ... we all know that if it is F2P it will be P2W ... most games are F2P/P2p so there is no advantage there.... i believe a F2P start ( 1 month ) and a P2P after (monthly ?) is the solution would fit better  and what i would prefere ... ( and what i believe was the starting plan)......

but anyway as one once say and i agree ...the game is too good to die...so ....

I've recently come back to the game after a few years away. When I played years ago, "they" also said the game was dying and that the devs weren't doing anything. IMO, that's just the GC think tank and they aren't always right. It's probably a good idea to talk to other people and get their perspective.

Boredom with the game is just boredom. There are so many layers and complexities to this game that maybe you need to get into a different aspect of the game. Boredom also comes from lack of interaction with other people. If your AC is not stimulating enough, then make it more exciting. Do something exciting or start conversations about topics that interest you. Or reach out to other players. You know, be the change you want to see. From my personal experience, more things happen and fun things happen when you talk to other people.

The game will be what you make it, and there are many ways to do fun stuff in Illy. And most of the time, it's better when you get friends and/or other people involved. Make new friends.

For example, I came back with the hope of solving the quest. Talking to lots of people has led to Audrey being on the verge of waking up for the 2nd time in 1 year. Talk to people. Make what you want happen.

Depends on what you view as the game. My game (pvp) died off enough for me to leave. The building and trading game will have no such issue. You can be the only person on the server and still happily build along.

My rough estimate is that the player count goes down by 2-3% a year. If I recall 2200 when I started and 1900 now five years later. I find it easy to imagine a UI release and advertising reversing the trend and perhaps setting up another 10 years

I plan to initiate an external recruiting effort for our alliance if the UI comes out or maybe if faction play comes out and get that critical mass where there's quite a high chance that two people or more are on who have time to chat
