In Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri it was possible to capture mind worms if your 'psych' was high enough. These automatically became your troop, and you could command them as human troops. I still like this idea but would like to see it more involved than Sid's.

i think its best avoided of automatically making captured NPCs part of your troops high lvl players with enough trappers could make huge armies in days which would unbalance the game its better if you have to capture research then train to add them
also captured npcs could be usefull when/if crafting is ever added with magical beast parts and other hides, venoms but thats another thing completely

Hey, just a thought but do we necessarily have to capture the animals. It'd be kind of interesting if we could herd animals. Ie trappers could be used to herd NPC animals, on the map, into attacking a nearby siege encampment.

It's sad that I suggested this so long ago "with a different account" and it got shot down completely, but now when someone else suggests it everyone is like "yeah leh go!"
But yes i would like to see all this issued into the gameplay

That might be why we like it. Other than it would be cool.

For the record, I offered constructive feedback for the sake of usefulness, but am not actually interested in this idea. Aside from that, there is some dependence upon skillfulness in presentation. That may have been a factor in how your idea was received (not saying I know, just offering the suggestion).

post a link so we can compare the differences and similarities and see if anyone else has something to add, the more we discuss and show interest in something the more likely devs are to consider it though something like this would take alot of work and probly wont be put in the schedule for a long while

Hi TS, A very interesting read. Regarding "time in the dev schedule"... All I'd say at this point is that... you'd be surprised where certain dev schedule things already are, and where they might be headed.
FYI: The original Illyriad alpha pre-release had a building called the "Menagerie", and skills called (exactly) "Animal Husbandry", "Beastmastery" etc. It was removed prior to launch as being unfinished and non-core. Regards, SC

Nice to have come across this thread! (thanks Nokigon!) It will be really fun to have a bestiary and animal units even if they are not as strong as the military units for the same upkeep.
