Well, I don't know what to tell you guys. They must have changed it at some point, because I have 20 scribes in captured cities that came with the discovery.

Allembine scribes are definitely nice to have, but I don't see them as critical, mainly because I'm not overly concerned about someone finding out my resources and building levels.  Sure, I prefer my privacy like anyone else, but of all the diplo units, I would probably be concerned about spies the least, particularly since the introduction of trade hubs.

  However, there are different playing styles.  I'd be interested to hear from people who see spy defense as critical -- I am sure there are aspects of the game I haven't thought through thoroughly enough, and I'd like to learn.

i have 63 scribes in one city .. maybe they made this city as an evac when I've lost cities before. lmao

Why research points? The scribes consume only gold.

I can only verify my own experience: I captured a city, the Allembine Research Techniques discovery was complete, but I sent spies out and re-earned all the scribes again.

If somebody were determined to know the details, they could embed a scribe into an army and kill it, and see if it could be earned back.

If you are unlucky enough to run out of resources or research points, the units could be disbanded.

In which case, I'm conflicted about whether they should be restored by re-completing the mysteries. Looking at the situation carefully, I expect:
  1. The Scribes would turn their nose up at a player with a track record for failing to retain them.
  2. The mysteries are known to you, so why would you go out to rediscover them?
My above thoughts, despite having lost them myself in one town.

You can't lose defending diplos.

You could, I suppose, lose them if they are embedded in an army, and the army dies. But who does that with scribes?

Also, captured cities can always repeat the scribes quest for the new owner, and receive scribes, even if the discovery is already completed.

Allembine scribes are critical units. However currently, if someone spies you, you can easily lose them, and your city will be handi-capped for life thereafter, with no way of fixing it. Please reset whether the city spied the human statue if it has no allembine scribes in it, so that it can spy it out again in order to regain the scribes.
