Even small amounts of resources (I send 1000 to 1500 of each basic except food) can be very useful to new players. Building is much easier than it was when many of us started, but a few extra resources can encourage new players to stick with it.
I don't think doing this makes me particularly virtuous, nor does it make me malevolent. I have resources to spare, they are useful to other people, why not share?

Partly because prestige building in the first few days will deplete their resources, and partly because people tell them to ask for resources. I think the phenomenon is wildly overstated. 95% of new players probably never speak up in GC.

In the past I would just send 500000 gold to all newbies....t-1 resources had little game value in the past and if not a prestige spender not much value currently..low level building can be done quickly .....the question is why do players still feel the need to send resources to newbies? and why do newbies continue to beg for them?

If someone makes a puppet account to harass others, tracking their basic resources donations for growth is a minor issue. Surely they would have friends to send them resources.

I don't really care if they are truly new to Illy, an alt, or starting over as long as they play within the 2 account limitation set by the devs. I'll help just about anyone get off to a faster start. I'm a little more selective once the new player joins an alliance as their alliance should be their main source of support in terms of resources and advice.
In general, the goodwill developed by assisting new players far outweighs any "advantage" someone might gain posing as a new player just to get my small offering of basic resources.

I changed my mind you could get around it by using the trade system, buying stuff at a really low price like food for 0.0001 per unit as the trade system works on the gold value of a trade.
I think you can only see a players total trade score ? I think Curmudgeon means more like people saying they are new when they are an alt of someone from an alliance who just wants to start a fight and not seem like they started it.

Illyrians are generally reasonably intelligent people. Well, some of them have impressed me with their wit as well as their perspicacity, at any rate. I don't think people "get away" with trying to deceive the playerbase for very long.
Usually the "newbs" who are not really newbs are fairly obvious. Personally, I send them res anyway, because the point is to help people grow, not to support any particular perspective.

So you are worried about war mongers trying to start fights and then being "backed up" by an alliance when they get "picked on" by some one ?
If so it is an interesting Idea as someone who is quite new I have not really notice this to much. Maybe put it in the player history tab ?

um, how will this help in any way? and where exactly are they suppose to post these sources? if you send donations to a new player and later on you decide you dont like that player, stop sending him stuff. remember any donations you give are just that, donations you no longer have any control over how those resources are used. if you believe someone who claims to be a new player is not a new player then dont send him resources, that is your choice no one is making you send resources to new players, in fact there are plenty of people that do send so that if you stop sending the new players wont even notice.
