Well, effectively, the Foundry, Forge and Blacksmith act as graded abilities for iron; in the big picture, the amount of work you do ends up being modified by the foundry, and the armoury production just takes from generic stock. In this context, graded iron just seems like an unnecessary complication; you'll just end up with surplus stock lines on your hands, which (according to your proposal) you can't use for high-end product. In practice, you should just be able to improve your foundry.

To make clear my thoughts I was thinking something along the lines of having Iron harvested off the map have a grade. Grade A iron will create swords/armor that has say... a +3 rating to it, and a grade F would have a -3 rating to it. Something similar to that. I think that it would help towards creating a new market as well as possibly making friction.

I think this idea would be fun, but not as a prestige item. Perhaps things of different quality could drop or be harvest-able on the map. Creating items with higher quality could lead to higher quality gear and/or create a market for high quality components.

yes in my opinion there should be an option to use prestige to obtain additional items, after all we do have the alliance pool, i notice several alliances having contests to give out the special fun shields, prestige can used for these purposes, i would really like items of clothing as well as weapons and equipment, maybe special horses too, anything to make the game more fun and attractive to more players, just think about clothing ur character before u send them out for a mission, how this could add so many variables to the game...ur thoughts and ideas? and please dont continue posting personal attacks, this is a topic to share ideas not to belittle people, there is too much of that going on in many of the postings here!

Instead we are playing like trained monkeys with little to no variety in overall tactics.
I don't see where anyone mentioned using prestige to acquire these things, and even if it did use prestige, 1-2 prestige would be worth it. It's free for the most part after all. :)
I can see turning making a special item into a sort of mystery-like task. IMO people should work for everything they can get.
I can see how adding more depth, if its additional units, or something we can craft/ trade with the factions for to get different bonuses can change the tactics of the game, as well as make it better overall.
Diversity is one of the spices of life...
P.S. If nothing changes, the game fails. That is Quality 101 folks. If you don't like it, you can always download FreeCiv.

Gameplayer, there are plans for magical items that your commander can be equiped with and these should be tradable with trade V2 (that is aslong as the devs have not shelved that idea completely). Therefore there will be something similar to what you are asking for.
However these will be constructed through magic with certain rare animal parts as I understand it, rather than simply being purchased with prestige, this is a much better idea in my book as otherwise players who spend masses of money on this game will dominate far to much.

it might be fun to trade for certain items in v2 trade to make new items, again providing a whole new dimension to the game. it probably will attract a larger diverse playing base. i think the shield is only the beginning, can anyone offer suggestions on items that would be fun to make with what we gather from the npcs, and how to make this a new part of the game?and please be more specific on reasons that form your opinions

I agree with Rill although I am reminded of Tribal Wars rather than Evony. It just seems that this idea, like some of the others you have posted gameplayer, are all in an effort to turn Illyriad into all the other games out there and I think that Illyriad being different is a thing in its favour.
