Topic: A Fix for NPC-Siege IssuesPosted: 02 Aug 2014 at 17:17 |

Since we’re still seeing many players experience one variation
or another of armies going AWOL when encountering both NPCs and a siege
encampment on a target square, I’d like to open the floodgates to us all to
help suggest a more permanent fix to the issue that would allow the armies to
resume their order to Siege, Attack, Reinforce, Blockade, and so on after the
NPC battle is resolved. Alternatively, we could suggest that NPCs be forbidden
to move onto a square that has a siege encamped on it, just as it’s not
possible for settlers to interfere with an exodus at the current time.
Either way, it seems that the system as it stands is treating the NPC + Siege on a square as an exception and throwing an error that was ostensibly fixed by causing the army to disappear or be returned home. This is an imperfect fix, as players end up with the bad end of two extremes. The first extreme is one in which players such as ghannima here: http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/bugfixes-12jan14-npc-blockades-etc_topic5386_page2.html end up with their armies stuck somewhere inaccessible to the player. The second extreme we have is similar to the case of Maccam, who had an army returned home by GM Stormcrow five hours after an NPC fueled debacle. In both cases, the DEVS
and players lose time and tactical success by the need to banish, resend or
recreate their armies, and we all know how costly that can be for both in game
resources and overall morale. The DEVS have said that they can’t link support
petitions of themselves, but that a new topic in which we list the details of
our issues and petitions may well help them fix things once and for all. So…please
do add the details of any petition you’ve filed that covers this issue in the
comments below, going back as far as you can. Please also suggest any fixes outside
of the two I included in the first paragraph. We need as much input as
possible. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration! |

I sent a siege army to a square, when they arrived they met some faction NPCs. The NPCs were defeated. However: - my army wasn't on the square - in the dropdown my army was "on Manoeuvres" - but there were no armies moving or siegeing according to the army movements page. I asked in Global Chat if this had happened before - Rill was one of the ones that said it had, and encouraged me to raise a petition, so I did, number 9872. Thankfully this was resolved within only a few hours by GM Stormcrow, and my troops were returned to my home town. The idea of not allowing NPCs to land on a square which has a siege / blockade inbound is a good one.

I think the most sensible solution, if it is possible to implement, is to have the army fight whatever NPC is there and then continue with the original orders if it survives. This code is already in place if a player army is on a square when a siege or blockade lands.
Unless the above is unreasonably difficult to code, I would prefer it to preventing NPCs from landing on squares with inbound sieges or blockades. I think the possibility of having to fight an NPC (or be protected by one) is interesting and requires more preparation on the part of the person sieging. Sieging should be at least a little bit hard, since it has pretty major consequences.

It is good idea, but not only for sieges...
Harvesters are very often in same dangerous, and they are not free. They are cost time and resources. Petition number 9773 from 03/24/2014 10:04:07 never answered. I have two more, also never answered. This one, number 10280 from yesterday, I think, should be solved very quickly: in my capital lvl 5 sov claimed without researched feudalism.it is happened few days ago and I noticed it just now.researching process even did not start yet.it is in queque. I hope you will fix it as soon as usually. |

My issue is the same as Maccam, I sent a siege army to a square, when they arrived they met some faction NPCs (bears). The NPCs were defeated and I received an email how victorious I was and showed my surviving units too include all my catapults. However: - my army wasn't on the square - in the drop down my army also shows as "on Manoeuvres" - but there were no armies moving or siegeing according to the army movements page. My commander is still alive and I'm paying upkeep costs to units I can neither see or use. I submitted the petition today right after I discovered this glitch. Petition # 10283. It is still showing as unassigned and I have not heard back from anyone.
While returning my army back to my home city is one option, but then I have to march it again to siege the city I intended to losing days or weeks depending on when this is resolved. We should be given some sort of compensation for our lost revenue or time. Giving me the city I intended to capture works for me as well. I already cleared it and was in the process of capturing it. Sir, The petition number was in my original post, but here it is again, #12083. The error occurred on Sat 2 Aug at 1143 (that is when I received the email stating my forces were victorious. My 4th Occupation Army is showing as on manoeuvres, however they cannot be seen on the map or movements nor are they sieging which is what the original orders were to do. I was in the process of sieging Supremus city at 92/459 and the square in question where the encampment was supposed to be was 91/459. I'm using Chrome.
Now to add to this is that the city has disappeared now too.....I had already expended resources and time to capture this city and now not only is my army in limbo and the siege never started, but the city I was about to capture is now gone as well. I hope this can be rectified asap in a positive outcome.
