I think it might be effective to have a "from the dev blog" section in the forum. Maybe this seems like duplicate work and everyone should be interacting at the blog site ... but your dedicated players are already here at the forum and it would be easier for US if the information appeared here as well.

I agree with this, I don't see the need for an external blog but if you really have to, post on the forums with the link directly to the thread when you've posted a new blog.

It's going to be increasingly likely that, as a company gets bigger, it might be looking for external funding, and then have VC or shareholders. Approaching these phases, it is no longer acceptable to share your future plans. Releases have to be very specific, and you don't reveal your IP and R&D to competitors; you go public when it's ready and available to consume as a unique offering that attracts customers. Further, if you make releases about ideas that later fail to emerge, it could be viewed as deception (from an advertising, or even an investment perspective). I hope that provides another perspective for those thirsty for knowledge :o)

Thanks for the reply Luna.
Personally I'm happy to wait and be patient for good, polished content when it comes - whatever it may be.
But I am happy you are mentioning about the dev blog. Imo that thing should get more regular useage... I guess my main point from the OP was that even though we all know that the dev team is working hard - it has just undeniably seemed very quiet from the player perspective over the last ~3 months. If we had some regular dev blog stuff to muse on even then it would certainly help to keep us all a little more enthusiastic about what might be coming.
Back in the day when Illy was still in it's teething stages it seemed like SC+TC were regularly chatting away in GC giving us all teasers about future content and fixing bugs/glitches in real time which pretty much made everyone feel very 'in the loop'. I can absolutely understand that an approach like that is pretty much unfeasable now that Illy has grown, both in terms of community size, dev team size, the ambitiousness of future stuff etc. (altho we still love to see it when they do hop in and wave their arms around) - having more regular dev-blog stuff would be cool.
Still I see SC already posted a 'development' tidbit in the last day in the 'development blog' and I've already noticed an increase in chatter and general intrigue about this in AC and GC and elsewhere... guess that already allays much of my 'complaint' if you can call it that. ^^

There's probably a bit of pathfinding to do in the roadmap. I'm sure it's All Under Control

As promised, my more thought out response to this post. Still, I'll cut to the chase. :)
First I'd like to say that it is important not to downplay the work that goes into keeping the game up and running smoothly (that you've listed as housekeeping) and to create new tournaments. While they may not be as shiny as other updates, they are important and take development time. If I could will new tournaments into being with simply the power of my mind I would (and they'd be awesome btw). ;)
But, a more regular schedule of content releases is something the entire team very much wants and is working toward providing for you all. A more regular schedule of communications about development is something that I very much want and am working with the team to try and provide. (Aka, pay closer attention to the dev blog.)
That said, a lot of the "in development" items that have been already presented to the community like factions, magic, trade v2 and pathfinding are all (to put it in super technical terms) huge undertakings. And while the team has grown, it is still quite small compared to many other games that I'm sure most of you have played. But I can say this, (in between answering support petitions and other unglamorous things) they are working on some really amazing stuff for you, that I think you'll love. And when we say we've got some new things coming your way soon™ we actually mean it.
Illy is a small company with very big goals. Goals that are absolutely do-able and will be great, but the trade off is just a little patience. So thanks for hanging in there with us!

I can recall Faldrin and one or two others raising concerns similar to those outlined by Creat at the head of this thread, in the past. Like most players in Illy, I have my own shopping list of developments that I would like to see prioritised in Illy. Chief among them is pathfinding; next comes resource values and sov for oceans and waterways.
Generally speaking I feel that "game content" has seemed to slip down the list of priorities of late. However, I seem to recall the devs pointing out that we should not always be reliant upon them to lead the community on developmental initiatives - this is a fair point to make. This game is a "sandbox" as the devs, in general and SC specifically, constantly reminds us.
This game, now, has so many mechanics available that is in fact a simple matter for alliances to utilise them and promote their own tournaments, quests etc .Whilst the tournaments have been well received in Illy we should not become dependent on the devs for game play or game contents. We ALL need to make our contributions.
Nonetheless I feel that more frequent updates with game content would be an improvement and once again I would plug "pathfinding" to be at the top of the list.
Edit: typo's

i'm sure the Devs are working on new content (new magik ,Trade v2 ) and are eager to release it as much as we are ( if not more ) but they have to make sure everything will work as planned and they have to look and fix petitions too, give them some time :)
