For me, no matter whatever you call the ocean, it's the Sea of Prestige, or Ocean of Prestige.
Neither this The Bitter Sea does not sound bad, and my voice just give this name.

Just want to throw in a small reminiscence back on Mod Strategos's "Pink Pen of DOOM" . But yes, there was a bit less moderation back then.

Well, I think it's pretty much sewn up now. I didn't realize fifty people even checked the forums this regularly.

OK, this seems a little weird to me. It feels like Rikoo is saying that this poll is not simply a vote about how to name an ocean, but rather he is reading more into it than a name people like or don't like -- including people who have no idea about the history of it.
So, are we voting about what to name an ocean? Or are we voting about something else? And if we're voting about something else, wouldn't it make more sense to tell us what we're actually voting about?
Maybe I'm over-reading the situation, and if so I apologize. |
You are over reading the situation. :)
I am saying that I will not give the reasons why we like these names until after the vote... just don't want to encourage votes either way.

Perhaps a new place should not be named after a forum that caused contention amongst players. A new start- a new name.

GM Rikoo, I think you are incorrect in your memory regarding The Bitter Sea. It was also bound by forum rules -- there was never a statement that it was not, and Bitter Sea discussions were moderated -- however it was a place where people could complain, vent, etc. about other players, about Illy politics and about game development.
Now rather than being relatively contained in a single place, that happens everywhere on the forum. |
The point is that much of the behavior that was allowed there was not allowed anywhere else, and would not be allowed now. There was very little moderation until Luna was hired, anyway. If the content of the Bitter Sea was not breaking rules or did not eventually break rules it would still be around. I will explain more about it after the voting.

The Bitter Sea was also a place where opinions about conflicts, issues etc were also voiced. Much of our history was wiped out when the Sea was closed.

It was the name of a forum section where players were allowed to speak (type) or discuss things that would not normally be allowed by the rules. It was closed.
