Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions - and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there's some cover available. Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels. Actually, it's almost a 9 to 1 ratio.

Bowmen hate it - and even cavalry units have difficulty moving purposefully to attack forested terrain. This is, however, the natural provenance of the footsoldier who excels. Suffering the same problems as attackers, defending cavalry and ranged units intensely dislike fighting in forested lands. Like the attackers, however, the extra cover and confined spaces is favourite amongst defending swordsmen. Attackers: | Unit: | Quantity: | Casualties: | Survivors: |

Really there is nothing surprising here, and heroism wouldn't even be necessary. This is just a basic tactical exercise.
163 cavalry defending in trees, where their defense ability is cut by 50%. Cavalry is weak against spearmen anyway, so their total defense power probably amounted to about 1550.
Attacked by 80 orcish spearmen and some infantry, whose attack ability is increased 50% by the forest. Total attack power something close to 3050.
Heroism may have helped, but in this fight I would have expected Jill to win with about 50% casualties without commander bonuses. Actual casualties were 43%. Cavalry should never be left in a forest square because killing them there is about as hard as killing a pack of NPC wolves.

Daufer, our testing does not show the same modifiers that you are stating here with regards to terrain. I could be missing something, but I am pretty sure those numbers are wrong.
Kilotov is on the right track with heroism as are you with the observation of Cavalry's defense value against spearmen. Obviously the terrain plays an important role in this too, I just don't believe the numbers above to correct.

So Judy, do you think these lies will stand up to scrutiny? Chimps has not lost a single troop to these vagabonds. We have not even sent any attacks yet, not one siege, not one diplo, not one troop. When we attack we do all the right things for it was I alone whom vanquished Dark Blight, and it is I alone who will remove your cities from Illy. There are no "other" attackers. This is a poor attempt at propaganda from StRude. Whence we commence aggressive negotiations upon the ICON we will stomp them with our jack boots and there will be no question as to whom is in charge, for I command 16 accounts and 6 alliances to do my bidding. My will is iron and I'll not be thwarted. Whence we cometh foreth youeth, youeth willeth knoweth iteth.

I rather like this. Satire at it's best. Humorous but disturbingly accurate.

Atleast Mons. Jude sticks by his words and insults, and goes down fighting. Who was it that abandoned his account like a wimp now, I wonder?
