For those who have parked a collection of sad-faced citizens on the banks of a lake, loch or tarn, you can now give them permission to start fishing. That's right, you can now claim sovereignty on those watery areas of the map, gaining food and important vitamins, minerals and essential oils for your undernourished citizens!
For the purposes of combat, lochs, lakes and tarns are treated like small hills.

Oils you say? Or are these oils you speak of fishy oils? Good job team!

Josh, the developers often use colorful language to introduce new features. In this case, they were describing the introduction of the ability to claim sovereignty on lakes, lochs and tarns and build a fishery there, which results in an increase in food production for a city.

Yeah, finally a slope for water skiing
Good job! Makes sense and eliminates some unusable plots from the map. So next are volcanos to give some percentages on Ring Smithing?
Overall a +1 for a (so far) smooth and useful update.

I still think that water should massively amplify bow attacks, and heavily penalize non-bow defense. Although maybe that opinion should change now that we have boats running around the map.

wouldn't the water be bad for the bow strings?

You can shoot bows back and forth between boats. It is harder to leap horses back and forth between boats... especially if the horses get sea sick.
Of course the real winner should be a catapult on the coastline with a big bag of flaming herbs.

I think I saw the troops manning the catapult behind that big barn over there with a big bag of flaming herbs and they were passing it around between themselves.

You can't really fish that well in swamps.

The only creatures that can claim sov on swamps is alligators, who get a food bonus from unwary fishermen.

Hopefully each day/week/month... year? lol, will bring forth a new DEV something. I know the game has LOTS of potential after playing almost 3 years, hopefully before I have one foot in the grave we shall be playing the game ROBUSTLY, instead of signing in to the same old thing. More of a complete game is my interest at this point.

Is there a reason why lakes are small hills, and not fresh water? Aren't the modifiers the same for each (0 for all units)? Does this mean that hill gear like hill tribe spears will get a +12% bonus when attacking lakes?
I know it's a nitpick, but the decision just seems so strange that I had to ask.

Swamps could increase clay production, though. And, you could probably find *something* to eat in a swamp.
