I can't believe that "The Great Cleavage" didn't make the final vote. Thumbs Down

I ask that everyone vote for "The Sea of Mercy" as a reminder that we need to be merciful in the future wars of illyriad. Also, it could be the bases of the story of a factions and/or a reason for a tourny.

I'm really hoping The Bitter Sea makes it.  I love the reference to Illy's history.  Even if maybe the forum mods were not overly fond of The Bitter Sea when it was actually around, I think it was a good thing to have -- people need a place to vent, and I think it contained a lot of the animosity so the snarkiness didn't spill over so much to the rest of the forum.

Since we can't have the real Bitter Sea, at least we can have an in-game memory of it.

It was the name of a forum section where players were allowed to speak (type) or discuss things that would not normally be allowed by the rules. It was closed.

GM Rikoo, I think you are incorrect in your memory regarding The Bitter Sea.  It was also bound by forum rules -- there was never a statement that it was not, and Bitter Sea discussions were moderated -- however it was a place where people could complain, vent, etc. about other players, about Illy politics and about game development.

Now rather than being relatively contained in a single place, that happens everywhere on the forum.

The Bitter Sea was also a place where opinions about conflicts, issues etc were also voiced. Much of our history was wiped out when the Sea was closed.

The point is that much of the behavior that was allowed there was not allowed anywhere else, and would not be allowed now. There was very little moderation until Luna was hired, anyway. If the content of the Bitter Sea was not breaking rules or did not eventually break rules it would still be around. I will explain more about it after the voting.

Perhaps a new place should not be named after a forum that caused contention amongst players. A new start- a new name.

OK, this seems a little weird to me.  It feels like Rikoo is saying that this poll is not simply a vote about how to name an ocean, but rather he is reading more into it than a name people like or don't like -- including people who have no idea about the history of it.

So, are we voting about what to name an ocean?  Or are we voting about something else?  And if we're voting about something else, wouldn't it make more sense to tell us what we're actually voting about?

Maybe I'm over-reading the situation, and if so I apologize.

You are over reading the situation. :)

I am saying that I will not give the reasons why we like these names until after the vote... just don't want to encourage votes either way.

Well, I think it's pretty much sewn up now.  I didn't realize fifty people even checked the forums this regularly.

Just want to throw in a small reminiscence back on Mod Strategos's "Pink Pen of DOOM" Wink.
But yes, there was a bit less moderation back then.

For me, no matter whatever you call the ocean, it's the Sea of Prestige, or Ocean of Prestige.

Neither this The Bitter Sea does not sound bad, and my voice just give this name.

Wink

How is that any different from any other forum? Are we allowed to recruit in the Tech support forum? Or post suggestions in the Help forums? Well of course not but that doesn't mean that it can't belong in it's own section.

We can discuss it in another thread. As I said, I will let everyone know why we picked these after the voting. Or, if you had a question about any part of the forums you can IM me or send an IGM.

We expected a new way of playing placed south of the ocean, but we only got more land.
I think the water was really bitter to sail...

I'm not the least bit bitter about how TBL turned out.

For me, the Bitter Sea is the best of the 3 options but not my favorite name in the least. Regardless, there doesn't seem to be much of a shot at changing the outcome here, given the number of votes it has with only a day left. Bitter Sea it is.

There were so many brilliant suggestions but none of them made it into the top 3 list?
The final "selection" is pretty lame.

Yes, really. :) I will be writing up the award post tonight. Be aware that we were just going to pick it outright from the beginning, so I thought it'd be a nice touch to let the players help us decide.

GM Rikoo

If you are not disgusted tell someone to rebuild stocks of wood and other resources in the forests and mountains of our beautiful Illyriad. Or it might be a good idea to call in the fire department. Everything will burn out.

Greetings, and thanks in advance!
