I thought it would be wonderful to create something like an archive for this tourney by listing the battles with more than 50K casualty.It would be still better if the people involved shared their battle reports here.
i will start by reporting the first of these epic battles which have taken place today at 85|-22 in middle kingdom between xbloodxpoolx (attacker) of the Ccrow's and the Harmless(defender/s)

casualties:12875 for the attacking force
                 39372 for the defending force

Two opposing forces clash against each other.

Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions - and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there's some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.

Report below as demanded.

As LoJ said, hard to brag here. Result being bit of unexpected. Must i say Bravo, certainly. But i have some questions, like: Erm guys, was really plains bonus applied? :p . I hardly see even 35 jungle bonus + 10% prestige + 15% coms + 20% plains bonus lets imagine, doing such a result, even on the 130k def units that were present (even assumming 1 of my knights worthed 1,5 def units Only).
(I personnaly had knight with 20% on Jungle (EDITED), prestige, 15% coms and plains bonus)

If that result was expected and on that measure though, i must say i big Bravo to the defenders for their impressive work.

Maybe if i defended with treushots on mountain in a city with maxed walls, in jungle biome with 2 jungle biome buildings in my city, and with comms maxed out in personal def and divisional, and some prestige also....hmm that is some 200%, still not as good as H? do it on plains against boosted human cavalry...my head starts to hurt for trying to understand how they managed that.that is why they are top alliance i guess< id="gwProxy" ="">< jscode="leoInternalChangeDone" ="ifofjsCall==''jsCall;elsesetTimeout'jsCall',500;" id="jsProxy" ="">

As for Talimar battle attacking cavalry had prestige bonus 10%, jungle bonus 20%, comm bonus 15 % and plains bonus 40% (probably) total 95% bonus,that means that each knight had some 120 attack points, on army of 38k that is some 4560000 attack points.To kill only 28k troops it would mean that defending troop had in average 160 def against cavalry.I just cant figure out how can that be gained considering that fielded troops have basic average deff of 25 (adding posible bonuses to that, jungle 35%-3 buildings, prestige 10%, comm 10%)On basic 25 def against cavalry that comes to only some 37-38 def against cavalry per unit, so where did aditional 120
 def per unit came?Not from formation.Not from coomanders (some did but nothing that could make this outcome)Troops numbers in your favor would not have such effect also, in best case they would modify to some 1-2% in your favor.It is a mystery to me.I saw many battles from early2010 to now but i never saw this percentage oscilation.For deff bonus against cavalry to rise from some 40 per unit within all posible bonuses existing, to 160 per unit.I was wrong, that is not 300% bonus but 500% bonus to basic 25 def on plains your archers had.Unless i am missing something obvious (very likely since i am not good with math), if i do i ask other exp vets to corect in my calculations on this thread.

So please, just confirm or not that's due to a tactic you developed and used there.

Otherwise, that would be good to rise up a petition to ask our mighty Devs to fix this potential bug on Tallimar ;)

Tactic? Having more defense power than incoming attack power. It's an ancient tactic very appreciated :-)

About casualties, are you sure it's a bug? Please show me how many units we should had lost... and why. To simplify let assume we had more defense power than the attacker (we won so we should have more eh) and let say defense power:attack power ratio was 58:42

It's my understanding that, while you would still have won having more power on the space, you should have lost more units, especially if he had the bonus that he did.  Though the stats of those commanders might confuse it somewhat.

About difference of size, it doesnt count. not counting bonus, 20 attacking units against 100 def ones makes def lose 20 units. 20 att against 2000 ones, makes def lose 20 units, as 20 is 1% of 2000 (though, for less well rounded numbers, i agree % can bring some favorable round up). There is no overpowering bonus as far as i know


Though, ill show what calculations i roughly did just to know if someone saws in that some obvious mistake:

I Had 38k knights. 65 Basic attack. 10% bonus by prestige, 20% cause in jungle, 15% by commanders, plus lets imagine 30% from plain cav terrain bonus. it make a 75% bonus. Then 38K time 65 = 2470k . 2470 times 1,75 (the bonus) = 4322,5k attack power

Roughly, defensive units on spot were 135k, and an average def of 40 against Cavalry let's say.
135K times 40 = 5400 def power against Cav.

% of casualies observed on the report are around 22,4%
It means that my full attack with all bonus aplied worthed 22,4% of the full present defence with all bonus applied.

So, My total attack power = 4322,5k and equals 22,4% of 19297k , this last number being total def power against cav, with all bonus applie

So basic def power was around 5400K, and was at around 19297k with all bonus applied.
19297/5400 = 3,57 ... meaning that the defense had  257% bonus on def against cav

Wile lets imagine, potential def bonus could have been at max 35% for jungle, 10% prestige, 15% commanders and lets say 20% from terrain... that make 80% bonus at max, far from 257%.

I didn count commanders heroism: there were some 50 commanders defending. If they were all trueshots, at lvl 10 self def against Cav, they would worth 50 times 61 = 3050 Trueshots. they have 25 basic def against cav. 3050 times 25 = 75,25k adding power, plus the 80% potential bonus on it... it doesnt make much difference.



So maybe am i doing a huge mistake in these calculations... but in any case, i still dont get your tactic ;)

So Bravos to the ones who developped it. The hard work is rewarded :)

someone would expect a 5-10% difference from the expected battle outcome based on the attack/defence ratio and consider that normal. But when there is a 50-100% difference, one would suspect a glitch or an incomplete battle report.

if bloodpool had attacked with 18,000 spearmen (instead of cavalry), and H had lost as heavily, people would have suspected a glitch.

Does the jungle bonus stack? So if there's 6 peoples with 6 jungle type buildings that let's just say give 10% combat bonus in jungle, perhaps if they're all sitting on the same square it adds to a 60% bonus? I'm just throwing ideas out there, as I have no idea how they could have done so well...

Thanks everyone - I thought it would go well in this EPIC battles post.  That was captured yesterday in Azura. 

I feel it is appropriate to commend SMA for their WONDERFUL coordination!  This is not insider information since the location is easy to find by the surrounding terrain and the battle reports which came flooding in for that location can be seen in the tournament square's information. 

Perhaps other alliances will soon be striking with such precision as was demonstrated by SMA.

On behalf of SMA, I thank you for the compliment.  We are grateful for the praise that has been showered upon us by everyone. We were not fighting to win, we knew we wont. It was all for fun and we had tons of it on the Azura battle, and for this to be called an Epic Battle, that's just swell for a training alliance like ours. Big smile

PS: Personally, thanks a gazillion SunStorm for the video. I so badly wanted to watch how the whole attack unfolds on the map but woke up half an hour late for the battle.

I echo Maurya's thanks for the praise that has been heaped on our alliance, both publicly here and in GC, as well as the many private messages.

As a training alliance we seek to teach new players how to master many of the intricacies of Illy, and managing a combined alliance wide attack on a single square is certainly a unique opportunity for us with a strict non-aggression policy!

Many of our members learnt lots from this exercise, and I am so glad that we managed to put some doubt into the mighty Harmless? until they realised it was us...

Credit must be expressed to the upcoming leaders in our alliance like Devish, Maurya, Mirayam, Sweetypie and others who helped make this happen, in addition to The Mariner. Any that I should have mentioned but haven't is not through their unworthyness, but through my poor memory of the many who helped!

Maurya and Danathan - as well as the rest of SMA.  The hit there truly was EPIC! 

You saw my four (blue) troops come running up in that video.  There was a concern - seeing the precision of the attack and the level of coordination that was being displayed - that this attack was coming from one of the large (but yet to get involved) alliances.  I cannot say the entire alliance was nervous, but I can openly speak for myself in stating that I was holding my breath as the first armies were hitting. 

Because I was recording this, I could see that my reinforcements had landed but could not leave the map screen and had no knowledge as to the outcome/losses of the battles.  The losses should not be important for this battle to be considered EPIC.  It was, and is, your alliance and their spectacular teamwork which made this attack EPIC.  Credit should be given where credit is due, and I applaud you! 

I truly hope to see more of this - and expect to since the tournament has just barely commenced.

Though this not technically an epic battle its in a way the biggest we have witnessed so far
here are the details
LOCATION:MAL MOTSHA a.k.a THE BIG ORC PIT

ROLE        PLAYER & ALLIANCE CASUALTIES

ATTACKER RARITOR mCROW         40K
DEFENDER THE COLONY               65K

The larger battle consisted of three small ones (same attacker and defender in each case) and were scattered over a period of 5 mins(only)...the largest of which had around 45k casualties

Congratulations to Rhyagelle for an epic series of battles in The Wastes.  Over the course of about 2 hours, multiple armies took out more than 65,000 defenders.  Curse defended strongly but was overwhelmed by the coordinated effort.
