Not as part of an attacking army, no.  I think someone posted the stats for one, and I seem to remember something about 69 attack.  But I might be wrong about that.

So far the attacking skelly armies do not include cav units, although that may change as the armies get bigger.

For those interested in planning for future unit types.

The possibilities range from  [@i=5|285] to [@i=5|288] and so far we have:

DERP: Posted spearunit stats twice...
Change - 001 :: Ossified Commanders from Cavalry to infantry, Ribbed Cadavers from ranged to Infantry and Reanimated Bonesmen from spearunit to Infantry. All but Reanimated Bonesmen are now monstrous instead of mercenary

Seems odd that the spear is monstrous and the others are mercenary... a typo/glitch perhaps.

Ossified commanders is a cool name, but Demonic Steed would have been better for cavalry units!

Ooh they have impressive defensive stats..

I am sure everyone is thinking the same thing here.....at some point, those defense stats are gonna come into play. Anyone else reckon we are gonna see camps of skellies appearing at some point?

They seem to be relatively susceptible to cav attacks.  As a hooman, me like.  Especially if they were to camp on standing stones (plains squares).

Any one run into these bad boys yet? Thank Chtulhu if you didn't.

Createure, you will be pleased to see that they are all "monstrous"

I wonder what "contagian" does? Hmmm, will this be the thing that turns our dead troops against us?

And three of the four are infantry. That's interesting.

[@i=5|289]
Khraglangs
Monstrous
Ranged

A Khraglang is the shambling, rotting, risen corpse of the soulless dead. They are slow and not difficult to kill, but have a ranged attack.

I belive noone has seen any of these monstrosities yet...

Attacks for tonight are beginning around... now... tho, so we'll see.

Looks like the offensive stats on these are no worse than the skellies... but who know's what these 'special abilities' mean?

Also I noticed 2 nights ago there were some attacks from 'Zombies (NPCs)'s forces from The Underworld' alongsie 'Skeleton Warriors' (as labelled in battle report headings)... but it seems the http://elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Communication/ReadMail/28314170/6/1/-1/1/1/4" rel="nofollow - Zombies (NPCs)'s forces were no different to Skeleton Warriors (other than larger numbers perhaps?).

And then last night we had a drastic drop in undead numbers from previous nights.

/me is wondering if this is just all part of the chaotic and unpredictable nature of dealing with necromancy, or whether there was a boo-boo where someone realised they needed to decelerate the increasing numbers of undeads in order than the smaller divisions don't get totally swamped in the tourny after just 3-4 days.... perhaps it is both?

/me wonders if the devs are using the tourney to test faction AI code and threw the stuff from night before last back in the bin for being too much of a leap up the difficulty chain.

It's so fun to speculate on the doings of the devs ...

No more spear unit or cav unit. Will update unit descriptions.

Khraglangs [@i=5|289] are still ranged. I have only seen 1 battle report (Thanks Steadfast!) and it had 40 units and made up 47% of the total attack value. No spears or cav makes commander levelling an easier choice.

Too bad I already put points into spear defence :(

Couldn't agree more.  Wouldn't be so bad if just the mix of the units changed (to sword instead of spear).  But actually changing the unit designations is a bit frustrating.  I'm not making a federal case of it, just saying it's a bit frustrating.

Magic defense useful for the first time ever:

Quote
Two opposing forces clash against each other.
Cavalry comes into its own when able to strike hostile forces at will, and from unexpected directions - and nowhere is this more feasible than on open plains. Lightly armoured spear units, however, prefer terrain where there's some cover available.

Fighting defensively on open plains, cavalry draws strength from the ability to form and reform their lines of engagement depending on the direction of battle, and it is here where cavalry excels.

Shalang attempts to cast Infected Wounds. This twisted magic has claimed the souls of 7 of the once-living troops at this location, and they have risen again as Shalangs, attacking immediately!

Attackers:    Unit:    Quantity:    Casualties:    Survivors:
Troops:     Shalangs    116    116    0
Troops:     Khraglangs    96    96    0

Defenders:    Unit:    Quantity:    Casualties:    Survivors:
Commander: Spear2     Clan Guardsman    1    Damaged for 10, 90 health remains.
Troops:     Clan Guardsmen    1050    113    937
Troops:     Death Dealers    398    43    355

I think spears will fare no better than ranged to be honest with these spooks... spear defence is very weak to those ranged units, particularly with the spear defence penalty on plains.

I think these new units will be all-round tough opponents, particularly if these new special moves are any good - good job they are all worth quite a bit of experience.

Spears will definitely fare better, there is no penalty for a spearman DEFENDING on plains that I am aware of, there is however a bonus for Cav ATTACKING on plains. Since Cav units get a bonus regardless of who is defending, it makes sense to mix in some spearunits due to their better stats against cavalry. This is of course more important in the lower leagues where every troop counts.

The real question will be, what's a good number to throw in there? 25%? Since most attacks will still be zombies and skellies? Be interesting to see.
