An Illyrian History: On the Players and Politics of UK1


Preface


“Any chance this history could be expanded to 'today'? I kinda like the history/politics aspect of the game, and I'm a fairly new player so would like to know what happened in the recent past... Anyone willing to do the work? :D I'm sure more people would be interested into this.”

I have decided to take on the task of writing a history. I am by no means an experienced writer or player but I am an enthusiast. Hold no expectations of me or this history, I will not garuntee its completion or content. 


This preface will hold a running account of my progress for now.

Oct 20: Preface begun. Research into UK1’s earliest days is ongoing. I am considering wether to interview some veterans to supliment the sources I have found so far.

Oct 27: Progress slow. Begining of first section and sources posted. Message containing interveiw questions for Illyrian Admin has gone unanswered, considering messaging staff individualy. Interveiw message(s) for the oldest members of Harmless? are being considered and composed.

Before Illyriad

To gain perspective on later events it is necessary to trace the paths of key players in Illyriad’s history back in time to before UK1 began on February 22nd 2010. Two migrations of players from other games are prominent, the movement of members of the DiggIK alliance from Inselkampf into Illyriad and the expansion of a EVE online player, known in that game as Jonny 101, into Illyriad bringing some others with him. Of less certain importance is the participation of some players in the alpha and beta testing of Illyriad, a largly unrecorded (or perhaps un-noteworthy) time period in prehistory.
