for (5) it's more efficient to build all plots of the same type equally.  Your resources will grow faster.

And you'll have to wait longer overall for the resources to come i while your upgrading the sites on #5 TD. its best to do all lumber camps lvl 1, then all clay etc. then do lumber camps lvl 2 and go from there.

My advice is for those that are receiving supplies externally.  My advice will get the new player to researching Fletcher, etc. quicker.  You will note that I advise to go back and fill-in all the other resource plots after having 1 at level 7.

Thank you so much for posting this info LH!  You have promoted T? very well.  Congrats on that.  I am proud you still love us enough to keep our Guide and share it with the Illy world!!! You have proved the one thing you have been trying to destroy.  T? is a great training alliance for new players.  We even build Beginner's Guides.  Thank you for promoting us and showing Illy how great we truly are.

I apologize for the out burst last night.  I was running on lil to no sleep.  I have slept on it.  Again LH, you have done a wonderful thing.  I thank you!!!

Too butt in here.. not in the defense but its not copyrighted so the devs can't really do anything, T? can be mad, but that guide isnt that different from any other alliance.

The developers/Game masters/Moderators do not get involved in ingame politics, including espionage.

The information is on topic and if you wish to debate how it was obtained, please take it to the politics section (or bitter sea).

Any discussion relating to: Politics, accusations of espionage, copyright law etc should be taken to either the political, bitter sea or caravanserai forums.

If anyone feels there are legitimate legal issues that should be brought to our attention here, they are welcome to contact us outside of the game and notify us of it.

I have left sufficient replies to mark that there is legitimate concern for meta-gaming being involved in the posting of the reply in question, but beyond posting a link to a discussion in a separate forum this thread is to remain on topic, tips for new players.

So newbies feel free to copy or discuss the Guide taken from the Harmelss/Toothless Restricted forum because it has such useful information which you will all enjoy and can share with each other.

But I would just like to highlight one fact and that is "Hamrless" and "Toothless " did not want you to have it. Think on that my friends.

Perhaps Brag, that's why they're one of the best( or best) training alliance out there. Giving out their secrets is something no specialist/master does, as in a master chef or master blacksmith.

And also TD great job helping these newbies outThumbs Up

The thread is diverging topic again--oddly this time without intervention--so here's some quick random tips:

  • Don't get overly excited about sovereignty early in the game.  Do research sovereignty when you've nothing better to research, but don't rush into it except to bolster a weak (3-plot) resource.  Pursued too early in the game, sovereignty will only hamper economic growth.
  • Level up your commanders by beating on critters, but don't go into a fight blind.  Reference the http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/NPCs#Critters - list of NPC party sizes and units to quickly determine what you are up against, and only send good counter-units (i.e. spears and maybe bows against a mostly-cavalry species like elephants).  The linked page above will help you find stats on NPC units as well as indicate what kind of unit they are.  And if any stats or unit pages are missing, send scouts to the camp to find out exactly what you face.
  • Stack NPC-hunting armies with attack-upgraded commanders as well as offensive units.  If your total attack value exceeds the target's average defense by a factor of 10, you'll take very minimal losses.  Note that this is total strength, not simply unit count.  An average elephant is equivalent to 2-3 cavalry units.  You can use http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/tools/calculators.php - this calculator to assess your own army's strength--NPCs are not yet recognized, but they will be when I get around to updating it and have all the data I need.

It strikes me that these "Tips" and "Guides" would serve  a far more useful purpose if they were  included in the "Arcanium Illyriad" or whatever it is called.

Perhaps one the areas that that the community has been lax in is the development of this IllyWiki (as I prefer to call it). Other browser games have quite comprehensive wiki's and we; the community in Illyriad should now work to complete the work started by Honored Mule and other contributers.

We have had a recent influx of new players into this imaginative, techincal and "massive" game.  They will find it more enjoyable and stay longer if they have a reference source that they can consult and also contribute to .We should all work together now to bring guides from the alliances and experience from the  long term players into a reference source that we could all be proud of.

The two "Begiinners Guides" contained in this thread are well written and should become accesable to all rather than argued about by a few ( and I have to include myself in that).

The guide that has been posted for T? is being revised due to the new UI.  It still has very good information.

One of the newer players in Illyriad has been an absolute wiki-warrior at http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/ - Arcanum Illyria over the past couple weeks (with my deepest gratitude for his efforts), and the data-based content available has been growing very aggressively.  I'm struggling to keep up with the editing, revision patrolling, and tweaks to structure and supporting content/templates.

As I do I'm also pursuing a full outline of introductory and intermediate articles, and a basic overview article that will index the per-section introductory ones (which in turn reference the intermediate ones).  You can see a half-finished first-draft example intermediate article in http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/Siege - Siege .  After that I'll be re-vamping the main page, then there's the re-write of my calculators for NPCs, integrating them and potentially other web-page based tools into the wiki, HB 2.0 which I've barely started, etc....there's actually a lot going on, and right now most of it is happening on the wiki itself.

Regarding the meatier content/tutorial articles, I welcome any and all expertise or input--don't forget the http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/Help:Contents - help page (covering both help with wiki-editing and quality/structure guidelines), as I keep it maintained with frequent updates based on any new mistakes I discover that new contributors making.  I would ask that people please use discussion pages rather than dip directly into explanatory articles I'm in the middle of writing without warning, though.  There's plenty of opportunity for multi-user revision post-first-draft (when the stub indicator is removed).  And if you have educational content to post but don't know for certain where it should go yet (or if I have a place planned for it already), create and maintain it on your user page or a sub-page (like: http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/User:Me/My%20Article - http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/User:Me/My Article ) and alert me when you want attention.  (I will treat such articles as works in progress and ignore them/patrol their edits only for violation of terms until asked for input.)

New players can now view a list of training alliances with quick overview and sortable by some important attributes at http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/UK1:List_of_Training_Alliances - http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/UK1:List_of_Training_Alliances .

(Alliance leaders, please add your training alliances to the list.  You may also want to put up a profile page on the wiki so players can more conveniently investigate further.)

this might be a useful thing for new people to get to know
wen they have finally gotten there armies  off the ground.
What are the numbers in npc  formations
aka how many people are there in a pack of salamanders ( for example)
or how many in  a hand full
how many in a host
legion
many
several
few
the list goes on

I aim to please:  http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/Party_Sizes - http://illyriad.honoredsoft.com/wiki/Party_Sizes

The numbers do not apply to faction camps, but data is being gathered to deal with that.

I'd like to accumulate several edits before I do another update.  Strat and I have discovered that each time I edit the OP, it removes the "sticky thread" thingie.  So I don't wanna de-stick the thread unless Strat is around, and I don't wanna bug him too often cuz he's busy.

But please, everyone, toss in your ideas for _new_ players.

I need to spend some time in HM's wiki and get some links to add to the OP so I can easily refer global chat questions to them.  :)

I suppose I should note as well:  While visiting the wiki, readers can enter any of the various names of party sizes (pack, several, gathering, etc) into the search/navigation box and they will go straight to the party sizes page.  I generally endeavor to ensure people can conveniently find what they're seeking using whatever label they have on hand.

GM ThunderCat,

Please explain why you have directly interfered with my meta-game.

Harmless?, through Director Llyorn Of Jaensch, has decided to destroy my reputation in Illyriad by falsely claiming my identity.  My only viable defense is through meta-gaming.

But you, GM ThunderCat, have taken decisive action in direct aid of Harmless? and direct detriment of my game by reposting my tip sheet.

Dealing with Harmless? is difficult enough.  It is pointless, though, when the GMs take sides.

Sincerely,

The_Dude

TD is not amused.
No offence though, but doesn't helping newbies take prioritisation?

The_Dude, I cannot believe Llyorn genuinely intended to cause offense or hurt your reputation.  I know with fair certainty that he was drunk enough last night to behave unseemly, and have not heard from him since.  All I know is that he was rather incoherent and seems to have been rather ornery.  It's a poor excuse I know, but an isolated incident of poor judgement nevertheless.  I would respectfully request that you consider this a personal matter, and not one involving Harmless.

For the record, I know who Llyorn's alt is and can declare with absolute certainty that The_Dude is not.

I also seriously doubt Thundercat understood what was happening or the intent of your edit, and only wished to preserve valuable content.  I don't really understand your intent myself.  Llyorn's statement is no credible claim to credit for your work, and removing it makes little difference.  However I respect your right to do so, and believe Thundercat will as well, once he returns.  (Though he is under no obligation--technically, the TOS give Illyriad ownership of your post.)

Very helpful post OP for new players removed at the request of the user, due to some completely (imo) absurd internal politicking to the detriment of the game.

We've, with great regret, unstickied and locked this very useful guide.

Of course, if any other enterprising player wishes to retrieve the guide from the google cache and re-paste it in the forum, we'd be delighted, and will doubtless sticky it as it's very useful indeed, and that way we GMs can avoid accusations of helping another alliance "Win" something.

Very sad, this whole thing...
