MAJOR RELEASE

RESOURCE GATHERING

You may notice that on your world map there are now pulsing piles of Resource Goodness.

These are interactive squares that contain fairly large piles of resources, abandoned by the NPC (Non-Player-Character) denizens of Illyriad.  Some were abandoned due to wars, some by frightened traders fleeing at the sight of their Lords' armies passing nearby, and some simply due to the changing circumstances of livelihood that effects everyone in Illyriad.

No matter how they got there - they're here, and they're available for collection by players who are alert and ready to sieze them!

WHAT KIND & SIZE OF RESOURCES CAN BE GATHERED?
At the moment, it is Wood, Clay, Iron, Stone, Food and Gold.

And the caches range in size from approx 1,500 resources to more than 7,000.

The caches appear randomly on NPC squares such as Dolmens, Ruined Towers, Barrows etc, and remain there until they are depleted.  At regular intervals depleted resource caches will randomly respawn across the map.  Resource caches only appear in the more densely  populated areas of the world map.

HOW DO I GATHER THESE EXTRA RESOURCES?
Abandoned resource caches are gathered up by trade Caravans from your Marketplace.

Simply click on the pulsing resource icon, and select "Gather these resources".

This will take you to your "Marketplace Move" screen, and you will be able to select the number of caravans you wish to send to gather the resource pile.

Gathering resources takes time.  Each caravan that you send can load 200 resources per hour, but only a single caravan can load at any one time.  This means that if you send 10 caravans, they will be there for 10 hours - but will bring back 2,000 resources to your town!

We will be introducing trade skills that allow you to train your marketeers to substantially increase the speed of their gathering and loading.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE ELSE ARRIVES WHILST I AM GATHERING, OR IF SOMEONE ELSE IS ALREADY THERE?
If another caravan arrives at the square to gather resources, they will push you off the square -  whether this caravan is yours or someone elses - and your caravans will depart with as much resources as they had gathered up until that point.

If military units arrive at the square (or are already occupying the square when you arrive) then it all depends on whether the military units are friendly (your own, or Allied troops) or neutral/hostile.

Friendly troops will attempt to defend the caravans, and hostile troops will attempt to destroy them.

We hope this expansion provides you with more resources, more strategic opportunities to damage your enemies, and more engagements with the outside world.

Best wishes,

GM Stormcrow

EDIT: GM Stormcrow is bad at maths. 10 caravans x 200 resources per hour = 10 hours and 2000 resources

ADDENDUM: ALLIANCES AND RESOURCE SQUARE OWNERSHIP

This has now reverted to normalcy and neutral alliances will now fight over resources squares.

Under the current mechanics:

Player A belongs to Alliance A
Player B belongs to Alliance B
Alliance A and Alliance B are not at war

If Player A is harvesting a resource square,
and has occupied it with his troops, and
Player B arrives on the square...
Player A's Caravan will be pushed off the square and
Player A's troops will now protect Player B

Bizarre as it may seem, this is working as intended - it's just that the Alliance changes (see this post) are not going live until Tuesday the 23rd.

When the Alliance mechanics change goes through, Player B would be treated as a Neutral, and his Caravans crushed mercilessly on arrival, rather than currently where he is treated as a peaceful partner.

The Player A / Player B situation outlined above would be what would happen under the New mechanics if Alliance A and Alliance B had a Confederation.

In the case of a NAP rather than a Confederation we would simply send Player B's Caravans back home, rather than slaughtering them.

So, you'll have to bear with us till next week for this resolution (or simply take the window of opportunity to declare war on everyone now, if you prefer) Wink
