Geomantic Potency used to be shown in the general branch of the magic research, as a successor of Ars Magica. It is now shown in the geomancy branch, as a successor of Nature's Earth. That's a good move, but all my baby cities (meanwhile burgeoning) intentionally limited their magic research to one or two of the three old schools, waiting for the introduction of new schools.
OTOH they researched Geomantic Potency in an effort to finish the general branch. Hopefully the new and better arrangement of Geomantic Potency has no detrimental side-effects for towns without Geomancy research.
Update: Likewise Runeweaving is now shown in the Runes branch. This could be confusing for folks not interested in the fear line of runes; a Ward of Insanity is not required to research Runeweaving. Or at least that's how it was, maybe this will change when the new magic schools are introduced.
