Update on the above. Town captured without incident which leads me to think the alliance is for the most part inactive or part time.

The plot thickens, received a response and have been directed to a separate alliance to seek approval. This said alliance has no current diplomacy stance with the initial alliance and no current link with the initial alliance although there is some previous history between the two.
13/10 Update: Been referred to a different memeber of the governing alliance, they have read the message but not replied. A few days have passed so time to send in the engines before the account disappears. Expectations are one of the following 1. Get a reply in the mail 2. Siege gets destroyed 3. Get declared on 4. Get sieged myself 19/10 Update: Town razed, no feedback received and no incoming armies or declaration of war so I guess that is one out of several possible outcomes. Moving onto the next one. 4/3/17 Update: We had a crack at another allianced city (not an abandoned player, just inactive) a couple months ago and the siege got broken right at the death. We are currently going again, so far with no resistance. We made no attempt to contact the player nor his/her alliance prior to the operation. Should claim the city within the next 12 hrs if unimpeded.

For what its worth, we may test the theory and siege the town of an inactive player that is tied to an alliance in the coming days. The question as been asked to said players' alliance without response, the lack of response is possibly due to near complete inactivity of the alliance itself. Shall keep you posted on the outcome.

So, this is a question with no solid answer , just game play where anything is possible depending on the risk one wants to take. The attitude of most of the alliances (we consider them ours) limits the ability of the newbies to grow aggressively.

I have asked the larger alliances actually. I was told by one that such cities are recycled internally. Another told me to contact my alliance as they have lists of those cities (which I have and none available worth having). Another one was helpful actually and gave me info on a city of reasonable size (8,000+) which i appreciated. I was told by another that I would find that most alliances want to keep their cities in the alliance. Have not heard from others yet.
As far as being fore-bearing in these situations, I am in no position to be anything else. If I went on my own and siege what I want I risk the wrath of the alliance or at the least put my alliance leaders in an awkward position. Neither prospect is desirable to me.

Generally, you attack who you want. If you can't do it, the game will tell you or will not let you. A rainbow limits you in many ways, etc.
Will alliances get mad? Maybe, maybe not. That's the part that the players determine, so I want to make sure that "allowed" does not get used a lot... the only things not allowed are: 1) things that break rules 2) gameplay things that the game does not allow you to do which will stop you anyway Best thing to do is to ask GC if you are not sure, and experiment and do what you want. Don't attack the devs though...... they.... they are scared easily. GMR |

I think most alliances are interested in excellent locations, rather than the cities themselves.
Have you tried the opposite? Just ask a few big alliances if they have cities that they are willing to give to you. Many have a few old cities in odd locations that they would give to a friendly player. Quite possibly some would give permission on the condition that you exodus the city out of their area, so as to not clutter up their alliance map. |

Publish a list of those cities. Many players would probably go raze them just for fun and to see what those alliances would actually do.
