Auction Annoucement: 2500 Reinforced Chainmail
Summary: 2500 suits of Reinforced Chainmail will be sold in lots of 500 to the highest Centrum bidder(s) on 14 Dec 2014 at 03:00 server time. Minimum bid 4000 gold.
Greetings fellow traders and interested buyers!
The industrious smiths of the Gnomish Mining Juggernaut are pleased to announce the upcoming auction of 2500 suits of excellent Reinforced Chainmail.
Such reinforced armor is cunningly designed to deflect lance blows, and provides +16% defense against cavalry attacks (at the minor inconvenience of -4% to bow, spear and sword defense). Please remember that the equipment recovery rate for defending units behind a city wall is 100%, so this highly effective armor can be re-used infinitely for city defense.
The public auction will take place in Centrum. No private bids will be entertained at this time. Bids are published by creating a Buy order with your trader. The minimum bid amount is 4000 gold. The armor will be sold in complete lots of 500; your bid should be for 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, or 2500 suits of Reinforced Chainmail. The highest bids meeting the criteria for size and minimum amount will be accepted at approximately 03:00 server time 14 December 2014. Bidding is open immediately.
Thank you for your interest, and happy bidding!
P.S. Be forewarned, if other traders find your Buy offers acceptable, it is entirely possible that they might fill your orders from their own inventories of Reinforced Chainmail. I don't mind this at all--in fact, I highly encourage such trades as part of a vibrant marketplace!

It has been pointed out that I typed 14 December 2014, 03:00 server time. Obviously I meant December 2013.

It is unfortunate that you elected to choose the term "approximate" in your auction description.

A 4,200 bid for 2,500 reinforced chainmail was posted at 3:01 for 15 min. But what I can say, she must need these a lot more than me these days.

I accepted the highest bid after 03:00 when I refreshed the market window. Olivia's was the highest. You probably didn't see the bid because it disappeared when I accepted it.
Trying to cut it close is a risk in any auction. Bidders lose like that on eBay all the time. If you felt the chainmail was worth 4200, it would have been better to post your offer several hours in advance, so there was no possibility I would miss the bid.

Then I humbly suggest that you replace the term "approximately" by "exactly" at 3:00 next time.
My timing was purposeful and related to your "precise" wording unfortunately.

I'll say 'exactly' next time. I said 'approximately' because real life occasionally interferes with my ability to time video game interactions down to the minute. Reality is inconvenient like that.
