Lvl 2. Diplo quest: All the King's Men (1/2)
(1) Sent advanced scouts (I sent 10) to a location.
(2) Ship 3 horses.
Reward:1 Plate armour + a lump sum for the 3 horses(?)

(3) Scout a location with advanced scouts (I sent 10, and lost 5)
Reward: a one-off Mana spike (don't know how much though...)

I did the same as you with 15 advanced scouts on last part of Golden apple tree.
 
Lost 7 of em, so you probably need to use 8+

Level 2 Diplo- Where did all the children go?
Send (any) scouts to search for missing children/strange hermit
Results- I lost 4 of 10 scouts, but gained 10 swords

It adds a small amount of mana to your store....not worth it IMO
