Since the introduction of cottages, I've started building them in all empty building plots until such a time as that space is needed for a permanent structure. I imagine this is pretty standard practice.
However, I like to build my cities according to a certain layout. And when it comes time to demolish a cottage to make room for another building, I encounter an annoyance: I can't tell from the drop-list which cottage is which! So if I have 6 cottages built and I want to demolish a specific one, I have to play a guessing game. I suggest that the UI is augmented slightly so that the screen that pops up when you click on a building contains an option to demolish that building, rather than forcing all demolition orders to be selected via that single drop-list. Thanks!

Yep and demolishing time for cottage is much longer then building time.

There are only three logical possibilities on the demolition page if it's not random: Sort by tile number (1..25 as shown in the city map tile URLs) or chronologically (FIFO oldest first, LIFO newest first). If you figure it out please post it here.

I am also having this problem and was hoping for some kind of layout of the City so we know which we are demolishing.
Thanks

I think it is possible that the order of the cottages on the demolish list reflects the order in which they were built, with the oldest at the top. I have had some success in demolishing the cottage of my choice using this as an assumption, but I might just have gotten lucky. (And I can't always remember the order in which I built the cottages, either.)
I agree though, having some more meaningful way of figuring out which cottage we are choosing to demolish would be nice for us city planners. I'm sure everyone has their own way of organizing a city for aesthetic, practical and role-playing purposes. For example, I always put my tannery downwind of the city (in my mind that's the bottom right side.)

Click on the cottage in town map. Look at URL. My example for this is "elgea.illyriad.co.uk/#/Town/Building/0/14" Notice on the end is #14. Go to the dropdown list, count to the 14th building. That's the one you select.

This doesn't work for me ... the drop-list for demolition is alphabetical, so all the cottages are lumped together, but their numbers in the url are not consecutive... Am I missing something?

My apologies, I should have tested it more than once.

Hmm Perhaps my solution doesn't work as intended. It worked when I had #8.
