River Sovs by Jane Darkmagic
Water sovs announced! How nice! Exodused a city, thrice! My orcs will love the fish, stringy elves no longer only dish! Alas, they do not come alive! My cities' food supplies dive. I keep hearing the same old tune... "We will fix this problem soon(tm)!"

These lyrics are meant to be sung to the tune of the old folk song, "Leatherwing bat". In particular, I have the version sung by Peter Paul and Mary in mind, since that's the version I grew up listening to. If you've never heard it, I found it here (the third one).
--- "Ho!" said the stout dwarf, hammer in hand, "I must confess, this mountain land Though rich in stone and crisp of air-- I might prefer a forest square." Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae-- Ay le lee-lee lie-lee low. "Hum!" sang the wild elf, laughing in the trees, "While speed and spells do not displease I will complain that fletcher's pride-- Would best be loosed from mountainside." Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae-- Ay le lee-lee lie-lee low. "Hur!" spat the vile orc, squatting in the mud, "My spear thirsts for the taste of blood! But truth be told, I'd settle for-- Anything but the saboteur!" Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae-- Ay le lee-lee lie-lee low. "Hark!" called the young man, saddling his mount, "I can't say I have many troubles to recount Since farming tiles all lie on plains-- And that's just where a true knight reigns." Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae-- Ay le lee-lee lie-lee low. "Hush!" spoke the dev team, popping into view, "We can't please each with all we do "And must stay true to our own tune-- "Everything else is coming soon™!" Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae; Howdy dowdy diddle-dum dae-- Ay le lee-lee lie-lee low. Edited by Raatalagk - 17 May 2012 at 02:20 |

A silly poem now. I hope it isn't too long.
Dear Mama (in poem format),
Gold does nothing nowadays! I'm writing from outside the consulate, whose owner kicked me out just now. And before that, the blacksmith, right across the street, did the same. As did the carpenter, the magi, the fletcher, the mason, the miner, the farmer and even the cat! The big city is harsh, no retry, no mercy, no refund, and a clear nepotism towards apprenticeship. My total spending comes to 150 pieces of gold. Three to the farmer, four to the miner, five to the mason, six to the fletcher, seven to the magi, eight to the carpenter, nine to the blacksmith, ten to the diplomat, and from passing by the city dumpster, 98 pieces to a bandit cat, which scratched my face and took my purse! So here I sit with nothing in my name, except for the clothes on my back. And, after thinking about it for a long time, I have decided! I'm going to join a circus, get famous, get rich, and all that. Then, one day, while roaming Illyriad, after mastering how to be a clown, I will come back home, to you, pa, and everyone else, and finally deliver you this letter. |

Dwarves are a curious race, O there once was a short hairy guy This
Dwarf who was quick with his whacks O there once was a dwarf with an appetite Who had a great axe and could chuck it

I MET A LITTLE ELFMAN ONCE, DOWN WHERE THE LILIES BLOW. I ASKED HIM WHY HE WAS SO SMALL, AND WHY HE DIDN'T GROW. HE SLIGHTLY FROWNED, AND WITH HIS EYE HE LOOKED ME THROUGH AND THROUGH - " I'M JUST AS BIG FOR ME," SAID HE, " AS YOU ARE BIG FOR YOU!" :) |

There once was a game called Illy
Whose players were really quite silly They would wait on releases, and then fall to pieces, for they came not before Hell was chilly |

This is cute, but entries for this contest are supposed to be the original content of the poster.

A sonet in the Shakespearian style, as if Mehra Metu wrote it to his love, Victoria Lannigold.
The lion roars and shakes his mighty
mane, A rose that live among the sharpest
thorns But how can I the sweetest rose so
take, So thorny rose from lions home do move |
