Topic: 25APR11 - Facebook Credits Posted: 25 Apr 2011 at 10:35 |
FACEBOOK CREDITS!
We're delighted to announce that Facebook-registered players of Illyriad can now use Facebook Credits in Illyriad as well as Prestige. This means that - if you have a Facebook account you can now buy or earn Facebook Credits from Facebook directly, and use these credits instead of Illyriad's Prestige spend option.
Buying something ingame using Facebook Credits or Prestige
You can also use your own Facebook credits to buy ingame services for an account that you sit for. Facebook Credits can be purchased in many alternative ways, including the obvious options such as PayPal, Credit & Debit Cards, but also: - Gift Cards, currently available from
- United States: Walmart, Target, GameStop, Best Buy, 7-11, RadioShack, Safeway, Vons, Dominicks, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Pak N' Save
- United Kingdom: Tesco, GAME, ASDA
- Canada: Walmart, Best Buy
- Hong Kong, Taiwan & Macau via MyCard
- Singapore & Malaysia via MOL
- Mobile Phone via SMS
- PlaySpan, which currently includes:
- PaySafeCard: Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal
- Wallie-card: Great Britain, Belgium, France, Netherlands
- Ukash: Germany, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia
- Rabo Direct Betalen / iDEAL: Netherlands
- GiroPay: Germany
- EPS: Austria
- Mister Cash: Belgium
- Todito Cash: Mexico
- One Card Malaysia
- Facebook Promotions & Offers
Facebook regularly run promotions ranging from their Deal of the Day system through to earning credits for various shopping options, and these can earn you Facebook Credits which you can then use to buy Prestige options in Illyriad.
We hope you find this a useful addition to the game, and if you have registered your Illyriad account via Facebook or have attached your Illyriad game account to Facebook, you should now have the option to use Facebook credits. Best wishes,
GM Stormcrow

Hello Stormcrow - Uhmm - for the slightly more dense of us I have to ask; in what way does Facebook credits differ from the conventional prestige - you do seem to pay cash for both? Do you earn it by recommending Illyriad to friends via Facebook or how was it intended? Is there anything ingame you can do with one option that you cant with the other?

Hi Tordenkaffen, The use of Prestige and Facebook credits are identical in terms what ingame Prestige benefits you can buy. Referring players to Illyriad will continue to accrue a Prestige reward as usual. You can, I believe, earn Facebook credits elsewhere as part of Facebook's various shopping programmes, but this is very much Facebook's domain rather than ours! From our perspective it's a way of allowing people to buy ingame Prestige benefits using Facebook Credits which, in turn, can be bought or earned from Facebook interactions in ways that Illyriad doesn't support (ie mobile phone SMS purchasing, or the PaySafeCard programme etc). I hope that answers your questions. Regards, SC

I can understand that the game need some financial foundation to keep evolving.
What is the best way to support this. By facebook "currency" or buying prestige directly from the game ?
That asked we need some content update soon

When players pay by various providers, the provider takes a cut before transferring the money to us. Numbers are approximate but:
Facebook takes a 30% slice - so we receive 70% of what the player paid, Facebook taking the other 30%
Mobile depending on provider takes between 40% and 80% - so we receive between 20% and 60% of what the player paid, but generally on the lower end; your telephone company taking the other 80%-40%
PayPal and Google checkout take around 5% - so we receive 95% of what the player paid
Obviously these providers have their own costs, credit card handling fees etc.

Ouch. I expected mobile would be a huge ripoff, but not that much. And Facebook is just gouging like crazy, considering they're not a legitimate financial institution and have none of the typical overhead of dealing with real currency.
