He didn't believe in fairy tales...
His belief did nothing to stop the pain nor stem the flow of blood rapidly seeping through the fingers pressed to his abdomen. The pain was almost too much to stop him propping himself up against the cool tombstone. 'Grave robbing was a victimless crime.' he told himself. Victimless because he didn't believe. He could not come to to terms with what he had seen. 'I must have slipped on my blade and the shock supplied the story. That was it.' he told himself between gasps of breath. 'The skeleton on the ground never moved. It was the shock. The skeleton that bore the fresh indentations and fractures from his sword. It was the shock'. He clumsily threw his leg out to kick the skull, the skull that he must have imagined was aiming it's dark empty sockets at him not a moment ago. It rolled across the ground in a satisfyingly ordinary way that objects do when they are clumsily kicked. He didn't believe what his mind was telling him. He gasped rapidly and coughed blood. The hot flush of panic turn to a cold chill creeping across his face. 'I don't believe.' His vision started to fade in the corners. 'I don't believe it.' he kept telling himself. 'It was an clumsy accident. I don't believe in fairy tales.' Edited by GrolschMan - 21 Feb 2015 at 13:05 |
